Looks great! I really like the PE ladder on the forward funnel, far superior than the kit part!

I am curious about the railing on the searchlight platform, which PE set is it from?

Me too, I had that impression, simply because it's nearly as high as the searchlight itself; I suggest you to cut it down to the height of the Revell's plastic one, as I will do on my own platform; no need to completely remove it (even if I also have doubts about the number of stanchions, they seems too many to me), just cut the upper part of each stanchion, then add a new upper handrail made of copper wire or something similar.

Let me put the search light on, compare with photos, and do the cutting.

Your suspection sounds very correct. I just thought of another, would the tunnel be a bit short ?

And the platform seems to be too wide to both port and starboard too. From the photos, it should stretch out a bit out of the bridge structure. However, the kit part or Nautilus part stretches out almost to the hull.

Hello Douglas,

In comparison to the photos, the railing seems high. It seems odd that both PE sets have the same size railing? If you have an accurate 1/144 standing figure, place it next to the railing and this might help you better judge how much to trim.

I have noticed that the kit searchlights seem slightly small for 1/144 scale. Maybe I am wrong, but they appear small to me. Has anyone else noticed this?

Have a look at the photo I posted on my Work in Progress that shows a modified PE railing for the searchlight platform. I think it is close to the correct height which might help you a bit. Just by chance, the stanchion spacing on this old PE seems to fit very well with the kit part.

The starboard bridge wing + Eduard.

When doing the Edaurd parts, I suggest cutting the horizontal part into two. It is very difficult to glue all the vertical parts along the the L shape horizontal part. Cutting it into two halves making it a lot easier.

I am building two of the Revellkits, the Fletcher as from WWII and the modern German version, after WWII.

Following this thread and getting some good tips--but how are you doing?

Did you get bored, too much real life work, or tired of posting?

Yeah me too. Don't leave us hanging. I'm about halfway through mine (it being a 1944 USS Halford) and I need more of all the great ideas you've been posting. Throw me a bone since I've got to build FIVE dual 40mm mounts and an extra 20mm!

I had built my mounts using paper templates drawn over the mount that come with the kit; I then used the templates to draw and cut the pieces out of a 0.5 mm plastic sheet, apart from the breech block and the mount basement that I did in 2 mm plastic. Before to put the pieces together, I compared them to be sure that each piece matched all the others. I turned my own barrels from brass tubes, but it may be best to get 5 pairs of BMK turned barrels. All considered, the whole process is less time consuming than it may seem at first glance

Unless you really want to scratch build the 40's hang on. WEM will be releasing them soon. They already have the 20's for sale.

Sorry that I am away from this post for quite a long time. I got a bit mess up with what it should be and what I was building. I stopped for a while and built two 1/48 Mustang, one for myself and one for my friend as a birthday gift. Then, something went wrong in my office, manpower problem. Life is sometimes difficult. Fortunately everything is fixed now. I am back on track. I will post some photos of the parts later. But please don't expect too much because I think all the major work is done, well, may be not, I don't think I could build an accurate one. Well, some told me to build comfortably, rather than struggling hard to achieve every accuracy. Right, I take that as I already made some inaccuracies.

I am now spraying color and will put the assemblies together and onto the deck when the display box is delivered. Stay tuned.

Ah, how are you guys doing with your Fletcher(s) ? Haha.

Glad to hear you are doing ok Douglas. And I'm looking forward to seeing more photos of your work. Mine is coming along too. Am currently waiting for a set of 40mm barrels from BK to put on the WEM dual 40mm mounts.
