Thank you gentlemen!

A few shots, the base and case, I am really proud of these, it is the first time I have attempted either, and i think they came out great! I have to give a lot of that credit to my dad though, he is the woodworker int he family, so without his help who knows how they would have turned out!

I have started populating areas of the deck with crew bringing her to life, and made a last minute decision to kitbash the JAG deck crane with styrene. the Crane is fromthe JAG set for the Wasp LHD, and is a different configuration. I was originally planning on just using the JAG crane "as is" and calling it close enough. Last night I decided to attempt to make a boom from scratch since it did not require altering any kit parts, so if I messed up I could still use the original for it. I am happy with the result, and think it looks pretty accurate now (I removed the main cab to work on it, but that will obviously be put back.

The Truman is DONE!!!!!!!!! :woo_hoo: :woo_hoo:

These are the last pics i am going to post in the WIP thread, look for all the completed pics int he finished models section of the picture post forum, and she should be in the main gallery soon!

I used the JAG deck crane, and I had intended to just build it as it comes, even though it is the crane for an LHD, but at the last minute, I figured my scratch building skills have improved enough on this build to give a shot at altering it to make it like the cranes on a carrier...
Well I am glad I did, after a few hours of messing with styrene rod, I am very happy with the results. the main body of the tilley crane is still JAG, I scratchbuilt a new boom, and added the big weights on the back where the jag platform should be. I think the results are really good, probably not 100% accurate, but I think this is close enough to pass most inspections!

Thanks to all of you who have encouraged me along the way, it really helped keep me going!
Semper Fi!
Ryan

Just found the build post - directed from you final submission. Well now i'm going to have to read this very carefully.
My plan in to build the Stennis in 02. I have been rehoning my skills on the battle group first.

Your work is to be admired.

Are you willing to provide pdf of photocopies of you templates for the sponsons? thay would make it a little easier.

What did you use for the domes and spheres over the ship?

-I'll now go back and continue reading
