More shots to come tomorrow, after I can get some rigging, sailors and deck clutter in place, but in the mean time I like how this little Pit Road kit is coming along:

My sub is finally finished. I used a Netherlands navy flag from my Tromp kit. I used the smallest one that I could find. I tried to tear up the flying end a little bit for realism. Weathering I tried to keep to a minimum and I think it came out okay.

It�s final shots.
Now the model is completed. Excellent kit and very beautiful prototype (as in modern submarines ).
It is a shame that the Alanger ceased to exist and this kit is now very difficult to buy. While inexpensive ($15 five years ago in Ukraine), currently this kit is the best Typhoon on the market. The kit enable to enjoy both the assembly and the result.

Great Typhoon. How did you get the white stripe at the waterline fo straight? Is that a decal or paint?

I decided to use it out of curiosity. But I would not recommend to do it. Quality of decal is not really good.

Finished with the Japanese medium sub. Not a subject I know a whole lot about, but a fun build none the less.

VERY nice builds gentlemen; sharp and clean

After a near disaster with some baking soda I was able to salvage the dio. The lighting isn't all that great in these shots. I'll get some better ones tomorrow in the sunlight. Here's a few of the better ones.

I sculpted the ice with acrylic modeling paste over sheet 0.5mm thick styrene cut in random shapes. The sub is landing some commandoes for some covert work in Greenland. Three guys in the first boat are already ashore while the second group waits for the go ahead to launch their own raft. The guys are Eduad Figures and the boats are some Carly Floats from the spares box.









Any thoughts, comments, ideas, etc... are appreciated as always.

So pleased this build actually concludes on the Christian Orthodox Christmas date of January 7 than the Western calendar date today! Right?

Well, the Grayback remains in the yard - no real progress since mid-week, despite taking Friday off with the plan to press to finish up. Don't take a day off two days before Christmas with any intention other than responding to your spouse's Christmas preparation needs.

I love the final shots and dioramas that have posted in the last 24 hours - so impressed with the results of this build and what I've learned from watching your progress.

Hoping to have the Grayback finished between the holidays. Congrats to all for their efforts here!

so what's the final count of players that finished? I never did see what the winners stood to collect either...besides bragging rights!

Alright gents, I was able to take some nicer shots today in the sunlight. Even got some neat shadows going; enjoy!















FINALLY I finished a group build!!!

I'm NEVER using baking soda and PVA for 1/700 ships again; what a stinkin' mess! It might look good for aircraft and armor but not for ships. I almost trashed the entire thing due to the mishap. The stuff got everywhere but where I wanted it and looked like crap where it did go. Not to mention the stuff found its way into every nook and crany and is still blowing around my table. I should of just chucked the open box into my fan; would of had the same result I might try it again but not for awhile.

Word of caution for anyone hasn't used 1/700 PE figures and is planning on it; be VERY patient when glueing them to the deck. Their feet leave a ridiculously small, almost non-existant, glueing surface. I found myself sticking them in the engraved planking of the deck in order to get them to stand up straight. I held their upper bodies in the tweezers and dipped them in CA glue. Be careful to keep them right-side up or the glue may run up the tweezers and stick the guy to them. Had to throw one away because of that. Use a fast setting CA as well or you may find that your guy fell over and is now stuck to the deck on his face. I use the little bottles of Krazy Glue that come with the brush lid. The stuff goes on purple and dries as clear as CA will dry. I find that these bottle last much longer providing you're careful with the brush and don't get it in the threads. Much better than those ZAP bottles that dry up after a few uses.

So yeah, after the PE slipping while drying, the ocean paint creeping onto the hull requiring a completley new paint job and weathering (apparently Future cowers and runs away when an xacto blade lightly scrapes the hull leaving bare plastic!!!! ), and the other assorted issues, it was a fun build! I learned a lot through the accidents, errors, and general pitfalls of it all. I can't wait to make all new mistakes on my next build

Well, here is the kit I started...... The pictures I took of construction were accidently deleted (along with most of my other ship files!) but here is where she is today. Construction is complete, base coat on and ready for finishing coats of paint.

She didn't get done in time for this build, but, she will be done in January.

I am impressed with the surface detail of the HobbyBoss 1/350th kits. A friend brought his 1/350th Virginia class boat to the last IPMS meting and she shows very nice detail as does this kit of the Song class.


When this is finished she will be posted in the completed builds topic.

Next up..... Russian group build.....

No updates from me - SSG Grayback still on the ways as I address sail profile issues. Did find the lamp risers I need to mount this - the conclusion of that search is significant progress in these parts!

Sorry guys for the prolonged delay in getting back to you all, it has really been a chaotic few months including Uber O/T at work, a car accident, own health problems and those of a family member. All is good now(crossing fingers) and I would like to take a few minutes to bring some closure to this little build.
