No minehunting system ASFC. This system was installed on 6 units of the class DDG-91 to DDG-96. DDG-97 to DDG-112 are/will have this configuration the only difference is that from DDG-99 onwards the OE-82s are replaced by USC-42s.

Never thought of that upto now. Thanks for the idea. I was thinking that i would post more photos but i m starting to like your idea.

The last of the Arleigh Burke DDGs. DDG-59 is a Flight I ship which is externally identical to DDG-76 orb is building.

Looking great! I'm still waiting for my PE set so that I can start with the painting.

One question on another matter, do you know any good kit from which I can build the USNS Bridge (T-AOE-10)? I'm not sure if there is any kit at all. I don't think I have ever seen a Supply Class kit, or have I just overlooked it? Any help is appreciated!

Thank you orb. Unfortunately there is not such a kit available yet. I surely hope that someone will release it.

Ah, thanks Nektarios! I was afraid of that. I really do hope that someone will release a kit even if only four ships of that class were built.

The problem isn t the number of ships in the class. Sacramento class AOEs are also a 4-ship class and Cimmaron a 5-ship. Both are available from Jag. The problem is that auxiliaries do not sell as much as carriers, cruisers and destroyers. Therefore their price is relatively higher ( because they are produced in resin) which leads to even less sales due to the fact that price is always a problem for most model builders. If i told you that a company will produce a Supply class ship and the price will be 100-120 Euros how many people do you think would buy it??? The problem gets worse because of the dollar-euro exchange rate since such a ship would have to make more sales in the U.S.

The RHIB? Its not one of yours.. ..I got it off a scrap Burke I bought from a Model fair (well I can't turn down an opportunity to get parts!).

Looks like it! I'm still a little reluctant when it comes to that, but I still have a few more models I can build the "conventional" way... and it's good practise at the same time

Very true. There are some nice resin models out there that I'd be interested in purchasing but the price definitely is the main reason for not buying them at the moment. It's not so urgent yet when it comes to finding that specific model. Perhaps it really will be my first scratchbuild... but we'll see

Yes I can hear the conversation in the Hobbyboss production office now:

Factory Manager "We did a production run of 500 Ohios......."
Company Director "So why is there such a shortage in hobby shops?"
Sales rep "All the Hobby Shops are reporting that some Greek Doctor bought the lot.....apparently he built them all in one weekend!!"



Of course, the conversation would be in Chinese...........

Thanks to Kidcurrie and Nektarios for the additional photos of the Iowa's deck!

I think I've got it, now!

Note the very suttle difference in the metal deck colors. My wash for the wooden decking was a diluted Model Master Leather acrylic. I used this wash on the forward half of the metal deck on aft of Turret #3 and then brushed on a not so diluted Engine Gray which is the same color of the aft half of the deck.

I'll soon be laying out the helo pad lines with JAG's deck markings / warning circles decal set. The ones that came with the kit aren't exactly correct for the Iowa.

(Note: that's turret #2 that I have placed in #3's place just for the full effect of the photo. I also have in mind to scratch build the additional small boat storage racks that show up in so many Iowa photos.)
