Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
I don't approve of this guy making this video. But if he acknowledges the builders I guess it would be OK. In a way showing a model as a real life picture shows the craftsmanship these guys have.
So down on one side and up on another.

in future there will be no more posts telling you guys of rare pics that may be found in the future.
you lot have really pissed me off..
i will stick to the subject i know best in future .

Well, we take our Yamato seriously. I note that the video is still up.
And if there are any real rare photos discovered of Yamato/Musashi, odds are that I will be telling you, not the other way around....

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Im no expert when it comes to old photos or research, but the photos would have shown up on research web sites a long time ago. It is what it is and a mistake was made. As long as the person doesn't run for anytype of office, I'm over it. Let's all get back to what is real important.
I'm working on the 1/700 Yamato right now and I'm concerned about the rigging. I have bee reading all the how to's I could get my hands on. Any advice or short cuts would be great.
Thanks
Sam

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
well for the final time its nothing to do with me. but i gotta admit i was pretty much exited when i first saw them .. hence my post in here .
there are precious little photographic evidence on these ships . am i right to say there still isnt any film of these two survived.
Im not crazy about Yamato and Musashi . i do find them both interesting though my corner is the Tirpitz...but thats another show.

Hello Guest (film- maker... )
Hopefully now that tempers have simmered down allround....
Are you a studier of Tirpitz only ? or are you also a model-maker?
I would be intersted in seeing peoples models rather than reading / moderating arguments!
meanwhile...
...........this chap warrants some watching-- he is pretty good...
same scene as Rainer M portrayed...

hi jim
sorry this is off topic briefly.
the model of Tirpitz in Faettenfiord is exellent,
i am useless at posting stuff this site wont even post if i put my name in it.
i have that model but mine is of a later date.my painting skills are not good but will get my girlfriend to post it when its finished.and ive been collecting stuff about her for over 30 yrs.
sorry this is in the wrong place . i seriously thought i was doin these guys a favour.
if it would have been TP i too could have blown the theory out of the water. but i definatley would not have accused any body of trolling. thats just out of order my friend .

Greetings to everyone!
Does anyone know where I can please find any 'public domain' head-on shots of Yamato free for any use?

Hi. If you mean head-on shots of the real Yamato, I am afraid that it does not appear that a single such archive photo survived the war. These two ships (Yamato & Musashi) were kept under "close wraps" by the IJN and virtually all files on these ships and countless other military systems were systematically destroyed by the Japanese at the end of the war. At least I have never seen such a photo.

Oh, and I owe "Guest" an apology. I went off a little half-cocked when that link to the supposed Yamato photos was put up. I realize he meant no harm and some of my comments towards him were rude and stupid.

No, sorry, just exactly like the one I just posted, please. Virtual graphic or artistic. I either need something that the creator can give written permission to use, or something totally certifiably 'public domain'.

You might try asking Kostas Katseas (angeleyes on the board) - he's built quite a lot of excellent Yamato models: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Yes I see he has an excellent what looks like early or pre WWII config of Yamato-class;
(I got a forum machine reply 'it was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image', so here is the link instead),
http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery ... index.html
Same as the other pic I just posted above, early config with no side gun tubs.
I'm not sure what to say except that I'm looking for a good head-on shot of the late-WWII config with maximized high angle/antiaircraft gun tubs.
Both pics are really first class, and I can certainly appreciate their work showing the early Yamato before all the hostilities led to their sinking, if those are their reasons.
I wish to reassure everyone that in no wise would I ever use anything by anyone without getting their express prior written permission.
So that's what I'm looking for; something like the above, a more realistically depicted head-on shot of a Yamato-class ship, with the late-WWII antiaircraft config; at least with the string of five gunwale-mounted gun tubs per side.
If I have to, I suppose I can always approach a professional-class artist and have an illustration done instead of a staged model.
I might add that -I'm not the pro in this so I'm only guessing- if you use a camera with a much tinier lens, the 'visual wrap-around effect' will be less, and it will make the ship look bigger.
I believe that was the problem with a lot of early Hollywood movies; they used big camera lenses, and the perspectives betrayed this with an intuitive feeling that one was looking at a very small model.
But with Star Wars, they used very tiny cameras, and then succeeded in creating a giant ship perspective.
Be that as it may, I'm still looking, and thank you; everyone here has my genuine admiration for tackling such a difficult project as making such highly detailed, expensive, and time-consuming models.
