I am focusing on my battle group diorama now, with all my 1/700 escorts arrayed around my 1/720 Roosevelt. Roosevelt, Ingraham, and Arleigh Burke are almost complete. I am not modifying the kits to fit a particular group, just making a generic battle group. I will post some pics of the progress to date. As for the ocean base, I am debating whether to use gel medium or Carl's method of making water using the tamiya plates.

I worked on the foremast of my modern Iowa, today.

I extend the platform a little aft. The SPS-49 was going to hit the SPS-10 in front and the column on the aft of the platform. The platform also looks longer towards the aft in the photos.

I then add the brass rod structural supports to the mast platform.

Well I was focusing on my 1/350 Cushing but I ran into a problem with attaching the deck and have shelved it for a bit. Nektarios, great looking ship. Those Atagos look just a bit more interesting as their Arleigh Burke relatives, I think.

I have attached the props that you sent to me. They are in the right configuration, now. Thank you, very much!



You'll probably notice the missing hull number on the aft starboard quarter. The Skywave decal split into about 5 pieces. The port one only split into 2 pieces and I was able to salvage it. I should have sprayed decal stuff on them first. I'll do that from now on for Trumpeter and Skywave decals if the age of the kit is in doubt.

I have asked Tony Bunch if he has any extra "61" decals for the stern. I just asked him, and haven't heard back yet.

I worked on the helo pad decals, today, too. I used JAG's Warning Circles and Deck Markings decal set for the helo pad.



In the photo, there's a stray piece of hull number decal in the helo pad's circle. I have taken care of it since the photo.

I've been working on adding a dark wash to the details of my Iowa. Starboard side is done, port side to go. The 5" gun turrets aren't permanent, yet. I'm leaving them off, for now, while working behind them.

A dull clear coat will take care of the shine of the model. I'll apply that when the wash is all done and I have applied new hull number decals by GMM that are coming from FTH, soon.

I'm looking forward to detailing the port side's boat crane area with a boom and pulleys, winches, etc. I'm still not looking forward to the tiny PE for the radar dishes atop the gun directors. (tiny, tiny) But they have to be done.

I noticed that the antenna platform on the bow is too, far aft on the kit, so I'll have to fill in the holes for that and attach the platform in its correct location.

I have attached the anchor chains, as well.

At least it looked very nice before the cat attacked it. I hope the damage is easily repairable.

Carl, the dark wash really helps set off the details and define everything, it looks real nice like that. Keep it going, man!

Nektarios, I have to agree, the Kongos and Atagos look much better than the Burkes, just something about them makes them seem more... solid, powerful, commanding. Can't put my finger on it, but they do look so nice.

I would, you can see it in the eyes. I've got two myself, but they're well taught to keep their little paws off my work desk. my lap's fine, my storage side of my desk is not. She'll occasionally jump up by my mouse (for those who've seen my work pictures of late, the photo shot section is where she jumps through) to get up on my wife's monitor (jumping over the subwoofer, two boxes, my knife set package, some paints and my wireless adapter) to sit on the warm spot and observe her humans.
