Thanks Jim. The cortisone injections have mostly worn off, much faster than I figured they would, but I am plugging along (VERY SLOWLY).

The island has started to get all of it's detail parts, with scratchbuilt clusters of spotlights (that look much better in person, but look like crap in these pictrues). It would figure that with all the stacomm domes I have made from scratch and then resin cast, that the ones on Lincoln are yet different still, so I had to go and make new ones from scratch.

After sealing the decals with another coat of future last night, there was some bubbling or something on the port 7 that appeared out of nowhere, so I scraped the decal off and will install another.

Ryan, hope you're feeling better and getting better!

Your build is really looking good. Your modeling skills have soared with this model. I'm really enjoying your work.

Well after a hectic hiatus from this build to knock Intrepid out in time for delivery at the Nationals, I am back at Lincoln. My hope is to have her done in time for a fall show that I have never been to on November 1st. I may not have her complete airwing done by then, but I am at least hoping the ship and enough aircraft are ready to take her out on a shakedown cruise.

So last night I picked up right where I left off, which was on the main mast. I decided I was not happy with my PE work, especially on the rails, so I broke the whole thing down and started over. It appears that I never posted or took pictures of the original mast for comparison, but here is version 2.0. Not quite done, but I am happy with how it looks now. What I have here is a combo of kitbashing, scratch, and some unaltered PE parts.

Nice crisp photo-etch work. You using CA glue to mount the railings to the platform?

Yup, tacked in place with testors clear parts cement (my new favorite alternative to elmers for pe parts) and then super thin CA allowed to run down the joints.

Well, after a very rough month or so with the sickness and death of my mother, I am really trying to get back in the swing of things. Modeling has always been my hobby, but also my therapy or meditation. It requires all of my concentration, so anything that may be stressing me out or what have you is automatically gone from the front of my mind, at least for those few hours. With the major stressors that have been going on lately, I just have not been able to kick my demons from the forefront of my mind enough to really concentrate on modeling.

So, finishing the island / masts with all their intricate PE and rigging is out of the question for the time-being, I decided to start on the easy parts of the airwing, assembly/filling seams, etc.

I am trying a pre-shading technique that I have used in the past on some hulls with decent effects, so I figure why not try it on the AC? The deployment I am modeling Lincoln from, was a very long deployment at the onset of OEF, and the ship and her airwing got very dirty. The aging birds on her flightdeck showed lots of panel swaps, repaints, etc. So I think this effect should show the wing a little more beat up than some of my other builds.

The Hornets also got their very humble interiors, but through a closed clear canopy, the effect does the job perfectly.

My condolences on the loss of your mother, Ryan; that's certainly enough to put any hobbyist off their stroke no matter how dedicated they may be.

Memories are like models; keep them fresh and dust-free, and they can last forever.

I am so sorry about the loss of your mother. Make models is always a good therapy for any of us.
