Where did the image go?
The reason I asked about the Kinugasa was that it showed another signal light on what looked like an alternate depiction of the lower yardarm.

I mean... I can pretty well remember the drawing, and could probably re-draw it from memory if I had another drawing of just the mainmast.
I remember where the rigging lines went.

Re: Calling all IJN Aoba/Kinugasa fans(new)
Is there any consensus on the most comprehensive source for the layouts of these classes any any particular times in their careers? It seems this thread is a good starting point, but with the Photoshack issues, I'm guessing most supporting images are now gone.

hi, all,
Aoba as she appeared ultimo September 1944.
For a short period she carried a Nakajima Alf which came from light cruiser Kinu.
The model (1/100) still has a long winding road to completion.Time for patience and yawning at nights. Can be contagious.

I can feel Dan is saying and singing "I am , I said,to no one there".
Hope days will be better, also in model builds in general.
After fixing 21-go and 22 go-radars the ladders are under repair into 23 steps(one step missing in the model, though).
Hands--,touching hands--reaching out-- I know its growing strong....(sweet caroline)
Have another nice weekend,

It's too bad that Gakken Books isn't still doing their ship series. This model and class would make an excellent edition alone. I'll be looking forward to seeing her finished.

Re: Calling all IJN Aoba/Kinugasa fans(new)
hi, Mike, It was a sub-division company which specialized in ship books, then it had to close Dec, 2011, but the headquarter of the Gakken publisher is intact. If they can find some ijn expert and if the director will say go for it, they may publish ship books, but not in a series.
Have been doing noctarnal work on Chokais gun houses-I will be off for 3 weeks on a journey to the homeland ,will be bringing work-in-progress piece along to attend annual meeting of a scale model club at Tokyo, next month.
So I rushed and figured out actual size of 6 meter range finder hoods to be put on the model, the hoods are much larger than so far imagined, awaiting finishing polish now. Then I will have no more time for further build when my departure is near at hand.

I knew about the Gakken situation, but hoped they would add another number to their naval series to incorporate another volume. Just wishful thinking on my part.
That's quite a handful of turrets you have there. I hope your colleagues are suitably impressed. I hope you have a safe trip.

Re: Calling all IJN Aoba/Kinugasa fans(new)
yea, Im in contact with a figure who works with the Gakken hdqrt.,lets wait and see how it will turn out to be. Hoping he may be able to compile it into a book, if Gakken approves. They already know model of Hyuga 1944 version 1/96 is nearing completion. Handed down the Hyuga model to another younger modeler, so he does finishing touch now. One of the issues is which photo studio can take pics of it and in where.
Have come to post some pics of Takaos gun turrets in Aobas thread here, they will be compensated by new or same ones in Takao CASF.
thanks!, I hope i will enjoy the trip and colleagueship while in Tokyo.

Re: Calling all IJN Aoba/Kinugasa fans(new)
Hello everyone,
would anybody have any good photo of Kinugasa dated after 1936 where funnel details can be seen, especially those on her port side? I repost the only such photo Ive got from an earlier post in this thread. It shows the shape and count of her piping on funnels was different in 1942 from those seen on earlier photos and on the comparison sheet between Aoba and Kinugasa, also reposted below.
Any other reasonably clear photos of her after 1936 would be helpful, too. In return, here is a link to a good hi-res photo of her dated before her 1937 reconstruction at http://www.naviearmatori.net/eng/foto-189955-1.html.
Thank you!

The diagram isn't necessarily incorrect. Many auxiliary funnel pipes were removed during refits. I know that this was certainly true of the Takaos.

Re: Calling all IJN Aoba/Kinugasa fans(new)
Hello Dan, I didnt mean to say the diagram is incorrect, but it shows the differences in an earlier timeframe (definitely pre-war). The foremasts were cut shorter than shown on both Aoba and Kinugasa before the war and the dials were removed at all. OTOH there seem to be even more pipes (or modified) in place in 1942 than before.

Re: Calling all IJN Aoba/Kinugasa fans(new)
Thanks, Dan, thats life.
Ive got three leads that I am trying to follow right now, perhaps someone can help:
1) there is this shot of Furutaka with Kinugasa in the background - theres higher resolution available at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fu ... a_1941.jpg but the scan is not good. There must be some better versions available like the second one on which Kinugasa is, unfortunately, cropped
(hi-res at https://imgur.com/r/WarshipPorn/sIScl4D)
2) there is another shot of Furutaka with Kinugasa in the background, perhaps taken few moments before the first one, that was published in Model Art Ship Special 50 but is far too small there to be able to see much:
3) the same Model Art Ship Special 50 shows yet another photo on the same page, its Aoba according to the caption but this cant be really told from the small picture and the sisters have been often mistaken, so perhaps there is a small hope, too:
Any of these photos (or similar) in a better quality would be really helpful. The higher resolution the better of course (pls post a link or contact me via PM for larger images than this forum would take).
Thanks a lot!
