Would the blast from the 5" damage the crane?

thanks gents for the info ( if you are not a gent but a lady than please excuse me for the miscall) but timmy you brought something to my attention that i totally missed, i geuss it would ,but i don't really have another place for it. do you think that if i built a sheild over it that would be good enough for proper function without being blasted to bits ?

I think that what you are missing is the masts for and aft of the funnels.

The 5" gun would not have serious blast effects on your crane, but why dont you try placing a simple shiled attop the crane base and ropedrum but do not overdo it...

She is coming out fine so far, keep up the good work and the posts for us hungry people...

I would probably put a retractable shield - the vertical component of the shield would be between the crane and the superstructure, with the "roof" part of the shield extending from the top of the vertical component to covering just the outboard edge of the crane. This roof would have hinges at its connecting point with the vertical component, allowing it to swing up and back against the inward side of the vertical component when the crane is needed.

Although, I do agree with GTDeath that the damage from the 5" would be slight, and a robust crane would probably not need the shield.

Well all it's been some time since my last update, altough this isn't a big update, nontheless it's still an update. I finished my first aircraft, and still have a few to do but I have a good start I think. I also added a mk 37 radar to the aft and am thinking of putting some more in as in the last pic you can see were I want to put it ,but I don't think it's goping to work because of the hieght of it in contrast of the AA' that's going to sit behind it.W ell yall be the judge for me and I will take all criticism, as I think that's the only way to get better is to be told in complete honesty about how the thing is looking. Well yall have a good day and thanks for looking :wave_1:

Mitchell300; Thank you. I'm working as fast as I can with her  I'm not to sure how many guns she'll have when I'm done with it, but it'll be a lot :cool_2: I'm not sure what the "3?" is though. but here is my latest update I did away with the bismarcks forward gun controls to put something a bit more American in and I think it turned out better , I also did my first set of gun bags which in the picture doesn't look that great but I think they do look better in person. I also started and completed my sea floor, for my dio. Then I got my Dia Lang today I'm using her as a IJN destroyer because it's a whole heck of a lot cheaper than the actual destroyer. I couldn't think of paying 50 bucks for a model that I'm just going to cut up. But I would like some advice on the things I can do to make it look more Japanese like., but here are the pics and thanks for looking and have a great day.

Are the "BUD" cans for a reference as to scale of the BB? I prefer to use Guinness pint cans myself. Just kidding. You have done a nice job putting the BB together. Keep up the good work!! I look forward to the completion.

Regards,

Brian

She's coming out great... :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
Replacing the german rangefinders with the mk37 was a very nice idea... Will you replace the aft ones too??

I have one question though...

Where will you put the main rangefinders of the main guns? For the aft one I would suggest lowering th mk37 radar a deck down and placing the main rangefinder atop where you have your mk37 now.

I cannot understand where you will put the fore main rangefinder...

Anyway, It's your build and your decisions...

Guinness can are most inspirational, may I add :heh: :heh: :heh:

I have a bit of more progress, not to the BB but to it's first victim. I got a little burnt out on the BB, so this is getting back into the spirit of building!!! but here it is.

Glad I 've helped .... :wave_1: :wave_1:

Take in mind that the usual pattern is to have the main directors in a more elevated position then the secondary mk37 directors ....
Look for Iowa class battleships photos. You will clearly see the policy for placing directors ... :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Keep up the good work, waiting for updates...

Well I haven't been working on the BB that much just some small things , such as getting the secondary battery and all the 5" guns ready for the bags to be installed, but I did figure something out with those main gun directors, I hope yall like, but I think that they'll work, and the other pics is of the striken destroyer, it is pretty much done I have to do some debris feild work and some more ground work but thats it.
