Time for some Yankee Notch class, 6 Yankee's where planned for conversion to SSGN submarines but only 4 completed from 1982 till early 1991. They incorporated a "notch waisted" center section, which replaced the old ballistic missile compartment, featuring eight 533 mm torpedo tubes for up to 40 SS-N-21 missiles or additional torpedoes.The forward torpedo tubes were retained as well, there where all withdrawn from active service in early '00's:

With 34 Yankee class submarines the Yankee class is the largest class of SSBN ever built, so is not suprising that at the early 1980's till early 1990's and at the dawn of their useful careers lots of Yankee's where selected to serve in various operational and experimental roles.
Lets start with Yankee Sidecar or Project 667M/Andromeda-class, an experimental SSGN conversion(in the lines of the operational Yankee Notch or Project 667AT/Grusha-class). K-420 converted into an SSGN. It appeared in 1983, carrying 12 SS-NX-24 nuclear-tipped cruise missiles instead of the original ballistic missiles. The SS-NX-24 was an experimental cruise missile. The missile was not adopted and the entire program was canceled as a result of the INF treaty with the United States. The K-420 became a weapon system without a weapon and was scrapped in late 1990's:


Next the Yankee Stretch, a Yankee class submarine converted in mid 1980's to be a combination of oceanographic research, search and rescue, and underwater intelligence-gathering, like the converted Delta III K-129 Orenburg :

Bronco is releasing the second Borei class SSBN submarine Alexander Nevsky in 1/350, I guess is the same as the first Borei they released a few days ago(the Yury Dolgorukiy) but with different decals and in particular th coat of arms of Alexander Nevsky for the sail.

Any chance that you have also some shots of her or Y. Dolgoruky in dry dock? I have only been able to locate those of the commissioning ceremony but most seem to be stills from a Video, i.e. low quality.

Anyone have anything on the old Golf Class SSB? I have a significant amount of material on this class from the book/documentary that I worked on (see below links for detail), but I am always on the lookout for more. As it happens, neither the old Aurora Golf kit nor the resin Seawolf/Torpedo model of the 1990's are accurate.

Does any one know when the Typhoon class are to all be deactivated ? I have found so many conflicting statements on the matter and was wondering if anyone knows a creditable answer ?

I dont think Typhoon will return to service again. There is no need cause at the moment Russian Navy has a better SSBN in service, the Borei class. As for alternative roles like large SSGN I think converting a Delta IV is better and more economical. And besides that, Russian navy resumed to contruction of Oscar II class according to this site:

They will be equiped with this missle :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3M-54_Klub to counter the new American made missle defences in Europe(based in Poland, Greece and Czech Republic).
Also the Delta IV have a new missle a further upgrade of R-29 SLBM family the R-29RMU2 Layner:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-29RMU2_Liner
And that clear shows that Delta IV will not be replaced from Borei class, only the old Delta III and Typhon class will eventually replaced by Borei class.
