i did a lot of web surfing and found a pic of the back of the 5.9,s.they are open .there are 8 of them so they will be cast.

i have been working on the 11"guns.a word of heed as far as reading plans goes.here are 2 pics ,one of the front turret and one of the back,these pics are off the same drawing,the back turret is 1/4" bigger than the front. i had roughed in one turret, and was doing the other and took measurements from the other end of the plans,this is when i found the differance.i should have known better, plans never seem to be accurate.i say this as a word of warning to all modelers triple check all measurements

well after the drawing screw up i got back at the 11"turrets.i had roughed in one turret,and was starting the other.i measured it and it was short so i glued anouther piece on,it then was longer than the first one.#$%6$#.this is how i fiqured out plans are not to be belived.anyhow heres some pics of the roughing in part.more to follow .

Great Job there Russ , Having a healthy disregard for the quality of drawings is good , I have found over the years that drawings and especially ship yard drawings should only be used as a guide and not as an implicit statement of fact. .

hi all,a little more progress on the 11"turrets,the glazing putty still has to be sanded down and filled a few more times to make things smooth.one the first turret i skin it with thicker styrene first,somehow the balsa plug came out a little small.then i applied the thinner stuff with the rivets on them.the second balsa plug came out spot on so there was no need to double skin it..more to come..

some more 11"turrets.the gray color is primer,the final color will not be that shiney.not sure on the exact year yet so i have not pick the colors yet.one thing for sure it will not be camo.i kind of like the year she had her turret tops painted red ,a little contrast to an all gray ship.

hi norbert,they came with a phot-etch set of railings and ladders in 1/192 scale ,they are the same width as the ladders on sc in 1/144.the set came from floating drydock or loyalhanna shipyard i think

Taking shape,

here,s a simple way to make a pounce wheel,a couple of pieces of brass and the drive gear out of an electric razer. this one is just the right size for 1/144 scale.i filed down the teeth to get then more pointed,drilled the center hole out to the size of the brass tube and it works like a charm .

Ingenious method for making a pounce wheel! That's what I like about this site; so much creativity in tackling obstacles!

Your technique for a pounce wheel is going to put the pounce wheel makers out of business!

here's the masters,moulds and castings of thr 4.1 and5.9 in.guns,also a few deck details cast.i was very lucky with the moulds ,i had measured out the 2 parts ,then decided to add a little more ,for some reason it made me forget stir the mixture.i poured it into the mould and waited overnite ,the next day it had set up a little here and a little there.i was scratching my head wondering what the %*$#%^ was wrong,it set up enough around the masters to get them out without wrecking them.so much for multitasking,one thing at a time.also i now paint all my masters with future ,it makes things pop out of the mould realy good.
