G'day Dave,
Just been reading the start of the kit build in the August MB really like the way you have laid out the internals A question how tall is the hanger door opening?? and what Heli's are the 45's able to carry??

Hello Alec good to hear from you and thank you for you kind comments . Apart from the upper part of the hanger door this mini build is at a stage where the roof can be fitted and the entire area sealed off . Yep I'll be heading to Telford but sadly with no model in tow . One day I'll enter a model , err one day!!!

Hi Sylvain Auger Thank you . To be honest there remains a significant amount of surface detail that can be added , cable runs ,All over the place crane remote operating crip , which it a significant small fitting that hangs on the rail and plenty of other small items but I think I'll leave well alone as a 101 takes up a fair slice of space within the hanger.

Roel my friend to answer your question. Yes Daring has a destination when completed. It will be going to the RN regional command or RNO for short to join HMS Mersey. Only Daring is considerably larger than Mersey but it�s a big place with is lots of space.

Hi Bruce I try as much as possible to retain the principle of KIS { keep It Simple } There is room , of course to expand the features but these would need to be incorporated at an early stage . Daring model will only sail once and that's it. One day I'll build a model I can sail for fun . The size of the hanger opening is 85mm x 84mm and I have a 1:72nd RN Merlin 101. that will be one of the last jobs on my long list of , "I must do that next"

Excellent job so far, sir! I really enjoy following your work. Seeing the solutions you come up with to problems is very inspiring. I will be making the interior of a hanger for a project, CGN-42, soon, and you are illustrating quite great techniques and ideas for construction. Thank you, and please keep the pictures coming!

I am a new member of this website .
I am starting a build of 1/96 HMS Dauntless using a Sirmar Hull etc and am following your article with interest both here and in Model Boats , I am an active member of the SWA and exhibit with them in the South of England .
I was wondering if anybody can supply details of the bridge interior of the Daring Type 45 , I really am thinking that a hanger interior and detailed boat bays will be a extra interest on the model although the detail will be more difficult at 1/96 ? How are you thinking of making hanger/boat bay doors ? I am considering removable panels if I can work out a way of securing them and remving them easily ?

You are doing a great job , look forward to the finished article .

hi dave ,i've been away a bit and you seem to have switched builds on me,is the hanger build part of a larger project or is it a stand alone?and what has happened to your other build?

Hello David and Welcome . There is another build of a 45 and at 1:96 over on http://modelwarshipsuk.informe.com/forum which might also be quite useful for you . As for the boat bay I'm just following the same as on the full size ship but stowing them as per the boat gallery up in to the top of the roof space .A little careful work and they could be made to slide along the track but that remains to be seen. For now I'll be content with the doors stowed away. This thread is has run its course , at least untill I return to the boat galleries but there remains plenty of other work on Daring to keep me going for a few months. David thank you for your appreciative comments and I wish you all the best with your build and and I'll keep an eye open for progress

Hi Russ good to hear from you. Noooo I haven't switched builds. The hanger bit is part of a 12month build log for the Model Boats magazine on HMS Daring a massive 1:72nd job and building the hanger could be seen as a �scratch build� bit in its own right as it's a slight departure to concentrating solely on the exterior of the model . I thought I'd show how progress on this segment of the build was developing as it worked in well with the build sequence I�d worked out for the Daring model . As for the Russian Corvette that remains very much alive , in fact only today I received the bespoke running gear and I'm awaiting the new set of updated GAs with all the modifications and corrections The Daring when it goes will make much needed space for the Corvette and so it goes on , �slip clear next ship please�

Hi Andrew Good to hear from you. Been away for a few days at the Blackpool Model Boat show and met up with ARH . Wall to wall model boats, any way to your question the thread I used for the coil of cable was Billings black thread. It was the right shade, thickness and could be shaped. .Although not electrical cabling it looks the part an illusion yes but an effective one! Hope to see you in November ?

Been a little while since I last checked in on to see how your ongoing build model of HMS Daring is progressing! what can I say except "Outstanding,Sir" you fancy building my hanger space on mine fore me? Really looking forward to seeing updates on your boats and boatbays!Drop me aline if you need PAC 24 info?
Your ship has been spending a bit of time around the UK at mo managed to get hold of these from a source. One key bit of information you may wish to know is that she has had something new fitted on the transom between the doors and has susequently had her transom pennant numbers lowered in line with the two AFT Pelligrini doors.
Heres a few shots to show you what I mean. Cross check them with your plans sheet 2 of 3!

Chris good to hear from you. Scratch building Daring�s hanger was only meant to be a limited exposure to that model. The remainder of the build continues in the pages of Model Boats magazine. In due course a scratch build log on a Russian Corvette will feature in MW but for now at least my attention is focused on Daring. For me it is a lesson in geometry or in tech speak the "conjunction of orthogonal plates� The Russian Corvette is a object lesson in this field of modelling so work on Daring is a learning curve. I hope!!!

Hi Dave, I have been following your build in model boat with great interest and so I decided to buy this semi kit from fleetscale and start my own build. I also wanted to build it because my company is a sub contract precision machinists for BAE systems and we made many components for the type 45. My question is, I would love to know where you get all the great photos of the type 45's to help you?
