16" gun turret on a PT Boat?

Hitting a fly with a Patriot is kinda Overkill. That's where I kinda draw the line.

Does anyone make 16" guns in 1/72 or even 1/32? hmmm I have a few PT boats

Very very cool, Nektarios! Those stealth boats do look quite nice with the sloped lines, the clean angles.

Well, I just slapped a dark grey coat over my decking for the Mightier Mo - I'd fill the lines but it'd take away the character. I'm going to use a darker grey on the helipad area, and lighter on the anchor areas. Well, not quite a dark, but a neutral grey. I'm gonna use a pale grey for the main hull colour.

I had a thought, inspired by Carl's words - He suggested the aft gun tubs for RAM mounts, and in looking over the decking, I found something I thought useful - there's the spot from the old forward gun positions as well, I was considering mounting the other two RAM there. They'd have the long flat view as well.

That s a very good idea Sauragnmon. I have seen something similar in another what-if design.

i only wish i had a JSP kit of the arsenal ship. That would make the CVBG so much more powerful.

Hmm, interesting Alaska, even if it's a little too less-upgraded to my tastes. Two more Harpoons behind the stack single file, rip out the center broadsides and build in a pair of angled VLS mounts... maybe. That and replacing the boilers (Duh).

Watchin' you guys doing these things amazes me even when I have my hands on a kit and have difficulties working with the details. I find myself syain' "IF they can do it, so can I" then a small piece gets tweezerpaulted into the abyss

I love that that word! New one for me! It describes the event exactly! It has happened to me three times, today.

I'm finishing up the PE deck railings and should have the Sampson ready for the paint booth later this afternoon/evening. Then on with the brush painting of the decks. I love that part!

I have two Nulka launchers done and two to go. The first two turned out pretty identical to each other. I was worried about that. I eye-ball most everything without measuring. Especially cutting the angles.

Sampson's looking good, Carl. I keep having to backspace and delete the K I want to put in your name instead of the C, too much exposure to German I think.

I often avoid tweezerpaulting by using a pair of flip-grip pliers/sidecutters that I use for clipping my sprues out. The pliers side make good tweezers, since they aren't as fiddly in my hands, and they're almost needlenose pliers so they have a fine tip on them. That and the fixed axle nature of them means they don't rely on simple bending metal. I just grip the pliers like tweezers and they work fine for my construction purposes. Pliers for tweezers, and Exacto knives for putty knives, man I am an oddball...

Before sleep last night, I did a little work to smooth out the joins on the Aegis plates on the forward structure, using my #11 and my Bondo to work at gap filling. I'll post some pics soon, I promise.

Carl, your thoughts on the forward RAM concept? I had a buddy suggest getting a pair of old Bofors tubs just for them as a splinter guard and a covered protection concept, I'm partially inclined to do so, but I don't have a pair of them on hand.

"K" or "C" I don't care. My email address has "K"s instead of "C"s because AOL said that the name with the "C"s was taken.

"Carl" is more Scandanavian, I think. All of my mother's ancestors are Swedes and Fins. She had an uncle and a grandfather named "Carl".

I was big into genealogy before switching to ship modeling. You can check out my online family tree if you'd like. I think that I've told you that my Barr family ancestors were from your neck of the woods from 1850-1870, or so.

As far as the RAM locations.............Don't over do it. If you're going to have CIWS along with the RAMs, two of each might be enough. I'm trying to think of what else you could put in place of the old forecastle Quad 40 tubs, but I can't think of anything, yet. Or.............how about some UAV lanchers? Tiny little airplanes on the forecastle. Hmmmm. What about torpedoe launchers?

How about building it full hull and make it a Hydro-Foil?

I'm glad that everyone enjoyed the 16" guns on a PT Boat thing. I was laughing as I posted it.

I just obtained a Loose Cannon USS John S. McCain DL-3 kit, this week at the local IPMS meeting. I traded four DRAGON 1/700 Soviet sub kits for it. About ten years ago (probably more) I built the U.S. subs from those kits and had the USSR boats left.

I got to examine the Corsair Armada USS Garcia kit, as well. Very nice! Gotta get a couple of those!

The model club held the "Model of the Year" contest. We won't know who won until next month's Christmas meeting.

I finally got to the airbrushing stage, tonight, on the Sampson.

I noticed, just in time, the vertical lines on the hull. Somebody posted a question about these, on MWS or SN and I can't find the post again, but they are supposed to make noise under the water to simulate rain or marine life, or something like that, to disquise the ship to submarines. I used .012" brass wire for these and then airbrushed the whole thing with Neutral Gray.

I had to scavange a Danforth anchor from a CFA kit and the bow anchor haus didn't turn out very well. It looks like I painted over a buger. I don't know why DML didn't include a Danforth anchor and mold a bow anchor haus on this Mustin kit. And why do kit makers think they can get away with a model that doesn't match the box art?

The mast isn't attached, yet. Its just for the photos, for now. Tomorrow will be the deck paint and other detail painting. Then a gloss clear coat and then decals on the next day, maybe. Oh, yeah! And two more Nulka's. I'm kinda putting those off. I want to paint the deck around where they go before glueing them in place.

I didn't put the railing above the helo pad, yet. I'm leaving it off to see if I can put some white stripe decals there and that extend down the foreward helo pad bulkhead. Then I'll put the railing on there, and on the little shack that's in the same area. I added some vents to that shack, too.

I added a little platform and railing to the small boat crane, too.
