Can we see a little more on those large plasticard parts on the starboard side front middle and rear. I'm curious as to what you have going on there.

Hey Simon B,

Here are a few photos of the areas that you requested to see. I used thin plastic card in these areas to hide seam lines and build up some areas that needed it. A few of these areas have been modified to try and coincide more with the way its supposed to look. Hope these help explain what I did and why.

I also started work on the #4 elevator support guides on the port side of the ship. Again, I pretty much scrapped the Tamiya parts and built my own. Some of the photos have inserts showing actual ship photos for comparison. It's good to have a camera again!!!

It's threads like this that make me wonder why I got the Tamiya Enterprise in the first place. I'd never be able to do it justice.

Hey thanks Laci! It's good to be back posting again.

I have started work on the starboard quarterdeck where underway replenishments take place at the fueling station. After studying photos and seeing how Tamiya interpreted this area, I once again came to the conclusion that I would need to rework this area quite a bit, so I opted to just scratch build the pieces myself again and scrap the old ones. I started by cutting a portion out of the hull to remove one of the molded on pieces. The photos show my scratch built pieces next to the kit parts, and then partial assembly of this area. It's starting to come together, little by little.

Yup, the three ducts are the actual kit parts, slightly modified of course. At least there are still SOME useable parts from the kit.....hahahaha jk

I got most of my reference photos from the internet. I have honestly been collecting photos for the last 2 to 3 years while I have been planning this build and studying them as much as possible to determine what needs to be changed/modified for the 2001 timeframe for Enterprise. It will never be 100 percent accurate or even close to that for that matter, but I would just like to make a more accurate representation than what the kit provides. There is also a photo CD from this website http://www.stillmotionsphotographics.co ... earchTerm= and the photos have been invaluable for the build. I totally recommend it if you are serious about detailing your Enterprise kit. If you are still coming up empty on your photo search, just let me know, and I will see if I can help. I haven't posted much lately, but I must chime in here and say that your work with styrene stock is the best I've seen so far in all my years of modeling, and I've seen a lot. Your aircraft in this build are hands down the best looking 1/350 scale aircraft I've yet seen.

Thank you guys for the comments. Russ, I really appreciate the compliments. With the company we keep here on this forum, there are a lot of great and talented model builders, so thank you very much. It's builds like your Nimitz that inspire modelers to want to do more than what's provided with a kit. Your build is clean, neat, precise and downright outstanding, so thanks for leading the way.

As far as the build goes, I have been doing some work on prepping the hull and the wooden base for the lighting and wiring. I've been trying to figure out exactly what all I want to light up, which will probably just be the hangar deck at this point. Had I thought about it sooner before getting heavily into detailing the island, I would have added lighting to the island as well........oh well too late now. Build and learn I say. I will be starting the hangar deck shortly also. I will post photos when I get anything of significance built. Thanks again for following along!!!

I just have a quick update. I finally secured the hangar deck floor and have the preliminary layout completed and drawn onto it. I used the CVN-65 hangar plans drawings submitted and drawn by Rob McCune (rtwpsom2) on the "Calling all USS Enterprise CVN-65 fans" thread on page 14. http://min.us/mdFyb4c Thanks Rob, for making things easier and dedicating you own personal time for the benefit of others here.

I will use this to build up the hangar walls and start adding details. I will more than likely build the walls in sections with all the detail, then paint them, and then add them as inserts. It would seem an easier way than to try and build everything inside the hangar, then go back and try to paint, considering it's kind of in a confined space and would prove difficult. Anyway, this is the start so we will see how this goes.

That could be interesting. Your idea is reminiscent of instruction manuals for armor models where the subject is given the full (or sometimes only partial) interior treatment. You can't just assemble the lot and then paint it, you have to get each bit of wall, floor or some other component built, painted and then brought together bit by bit. It makes things trickier to glue into place, sure, but practice makes perfect.

In my stash in particular, this applies to a Tamiya M2A3 Bradley IFV and a HobbyBoss AAVP-7A1, the latter of which I'm thinking of just sealing shut and putting in a sort of surf-and-turf diorama.
