RE: AZ Model Pics
Hi guys-
I sent in my USS Arizona pics of Don Preul's model to the website. I did also take some of wreck model and some of the memorial that I can share later if anyone wants to see those too.
I would just like to say again to Don a big "THANKS!" for providing us with such a fantastic model of a ship that obviously means a lot to so many of us. I am just glad to be able to help share his wonderful model with all of you.

Hi Guys,
It's been a little while anyway........
I spent all of the last week, (at least), painting the decks and all of those pesky protuberances!

The deck painting was done in this fashion:
Paint deck tan color...
Re-paint deck tan color...
Mask and paint largest of deck areas other than tan in color...5-S
Brush paint all of the smaller deck details......one...by...one...5-S
Add wash to deck planking to bring out the recessed detail...dark grey/deark earth/radome tan wash mix.......Acryl...
Add small streaks of different shades of wood colors to simulate individual planking.....three colors used not of the original deck tan color...Dark earth mixed with white, (2 levels), dark earth mixed with radome tan
More to come!
A upcoming minor concern......how will the p/e yardarms for the foremast hang with a bunch of rigging drawing directly down?
Thanks Guys!
Tony

Hi Guys,
Some slow progress lately, but not for lack of time spent!
I've been working at least 2 hours a day on Arizona. Here is the nearly completed bridge/foretop structure......still needs railings on the pilot house roof and some touch-up paint.

Any comments are welcome. I forgot how much fun it was to add on 1/700 p/e railings; especially in small segments.....

You might want to extend the 5-S mix higher on the forward tripod.... check out the extra rafts in view too for that extra touch if you've got extras...

Hi Guys,
Hi Tracy and Martin,
I'll move the 5-S up on the fwd tripod.
Even though the picture you linked I have seen before, it is not in the Stillwell book; ergo I have not studied it....lately.
Thanks!
I do have some extra life rafts from the Dragon Essex, but they are not quite the same.
Maybe from another, (of several), 1/700 USN ship kits.
Thanks for the suggestions and comments Guys.

Hi Guys,
Here is a simple yet complex task; assembling a 1/700 turret catapult. I spent minute after minute picking up the dropped p/e parts. I spent an hour almost; trying to properly attach the small catwalk....alas, it is finished and attached to turret 3. I also had to fill the two .047 holes in the turret top, as I was able top see beneath the catapult onto the turret roof. I used plastic dowel and cut flush with fingernail, "edge", clippers.
I shall write no more, but let you guys have a look....

As always, thanks for letting me share.
Tony

Hi Guys,
I have a question:
If both catapults were operational and there was an an airworthy OS2U perched atop each cat; which would be launched first?
One of the two cats will have recently launched an OS2U, and this will be part of my display...I hope!
Thanks in advance, Tony

I'm not sure which would be launched first, but I've seen two SOCs (not Kingfishers, but that's not to say it wasn't done.) on the #3 turret cat before for storage.

USS Arizona
I just received my 1/350 Arizona last week. Those guns look great; I'll have to get them if I ever get the deck done........ In an earlier build they described using 1 pt size graphics tape. Where can I find tape like that? Or do I have to measure and cut?

Hi Guys,
I've been at it.......while at work today! Slow in the car care biz, so I got busy!
The bridge assembly and the forward fighting top are now permanently installed. The small teardrop pad on the foretop is finished but for paint.
The cats are both finished, as well as the fantail crane.
I need to do a mess of touch up, but.........later.
I'm going down to Lowe's to get my wood base cut to 15" x 7".
Here is the superstructure as it is this evening......

Any and all comments are welcome.
Thanks to Tracy for the OS2U pics!

Best I know of is page 204 of the Stillwell book, but page 160 may be of some use depending on what you're looking for.Sean Hert wrote:Anybody got any pics or diagrams of the baffles inside AZ's stack?
