Nice Thread!
A Naval Yard in Augsburg/Germany. It was planned as an Office. Now its more a Modeling Studio.
I like this better anyway...

Hmm I thought I posted to this thread but I don't think I did. Here are some pictures of my current workbench- I still find time to complete kits right here at the University. You asked for a raw photo so... As you can see there is part of my breakfast (OJ) and yesterdays lunch (box). Although room is cramped here and I risk damaging my ships transporting them home (they get front seat!) I can at least get some of my work done here or started. I can't spraypaint because I will kill the floor and my suitemates with noxious fumes . I have built maybe two or three models out of here: including my Yamato which we RC'd. I can get at max either two or three 1/350 sized subjects in here with two 1/700 subjects, or many 1/700 sized subjects. I use all the available space to me that I can.




I honestly didn't clean up for the second photo- that is how I had started out after I cleared out the New Jersey out of the yard- I typically clean up after major projects and reorganize things. This is my main base of operations at home where I can spraypaint and paint. I also do some work at my engineering desk in my current room- subjects small enough to be painted safely (I have a 1/35 halftrack I am building up there). I have adequate facilities to build my models but some of the workbenches I have seen are either scary, spectacular, or both My honest to goodness goal is when I am out of college to have a dedicated room for model building- the whole 9 yards- ventilation, paint and tool organization, computer, anything and everything I need to create.

Here are a couple more pictures of my bench. It's a little crude but it gets the job done. Still working on the Lindberg Fletcher.

This has turned out to be some collection!
While studying all of your pics I have come to one
inescapable conclusion: you guys are very creative!

I guess it should be expected that everyone would find or create
a solution no matter what the circumstances they find themselves
modeling in. Very impressive ingenuity, creativity and persistance.

I hope to have my "studio" completed by next summer when
this place thaws out and I can do some woordworking
(which I have to do outside in my yard).

If you haven't posted and want to add your bench to this inspirational
library of ideas, please do! Everyone enjoys seeing them whether
they are a cardboard box top or a custom-built studio.

Yes. The finished model is in the Gallery section.

It's fun to see where other people spend their time building models. Here's my work area (the room is actually larger than the photo suggests. I do need a larger table though.) And here's why I don't have too much extra space in my hobby room...display case #1: And display case #2:
Together they're holding about 250 finished 1/700 models.

Thanks! I just completed the Furious last month- using the photos of your superb build as reference. Of course mine is nowhere close to the level of detail and artistry. I was happy enough that the PE goalpost nets on the aft deck came out ok!

I'll try to post some more pics in the future in a seperate thread.

This is a very interesting thread, well worth looking over. Unfortunately I have neither a dedicated work space or a large collection of built kits-I have more WIP builds than I do completed builds (I learn faster than I build so I am constantly rebuilding old builds ) Soon though, I will and I can't wait! My point is that I have got alot of inspiration and ideas from this thread! Thanks for the pics guys!

Hi Guys

My workbench is located under the stairs in my house. It's a convenient location and it allows me to store most of my stash as well as my library of books about ships, modelling, etc . The only negative thing about it is that there is no natural lighting, so I have to use a number of lamps - can't complain too much, it's my space and the C-in-C is happy even though she would like to area for storage - priorities, my dear, priorities.

The pics of the bench were taken at different times and they show different builds going on.

Comments welcome gents.

Here is mine, I converted an armoir into my modeling desk so that the CinC doesn't need to pester me about cleaning up, I just close the doors

Thought i ll post a picture of my workbench which accommodates also a 21" monitor.On display all the models that i want to finish for my collection,currently only one has escaped the sell off -USS Arizona -and i made a promise to myself not to give that away.I just lined them up and realized what building for someone else does to my collection status...permanently unfinished projects stacking up and added to the cue of my "must have", to a point that it seems almost an impossible task have them finished in a lifetime.
