Dan K wrote:My new kit is in hand, though it will be a while before I get around to building it. Ihope only the casemates need correcting - I would love to build something relatively straightforward for once.

Here's a link to a nice build of this new Kongo kit - can't tell if all the casemates were corrected (go to products, second line - Kongo 1944): http://www.geocities.jp/nenekobo/

hhhmmm it looks to me he used P.E ladders for the pagoda windows OR Lionroar's windows set, i'm leaning towards P.E ladders though. It looks terrific nonetheless, thanks for the page Dan i'll save this on my faves ( DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE REST OF THE SHIPS GUYS, THIS FELLOW IS GOOD) i wonder what's with Robert Redford

Few minutes ago i got my Kongo from Hobby Search and wow i mean i was literally talking to myself while i was going over the kit ( dont get me wrong guys :lol_4: i know it sounds creepy but if you buy it i bet youd do the very same) i simply love the pointy bow! and like others said already the only thing that brings the entire kits overall down are those wrongly shaped casemates still, by far this has to be one of the best 1/700 injection kits ive seen until now. Way to go Fujimi!!

I received the old Fujimi model this week.

I know the new one probably would look much better...! =\ Ah, oh well.

Hello--I am not so knowledgeable about Fujimi ships, I saw a 1/700 Kongo and it had "Sea Way Models" on the box. Is this boxing pretty well detailed and is it full hull, waterline or both? Thanks---John

I have the Fujimi 42016 1/700 Sea Way Model. It is waterline.

As far as the detail levels, I can't tell you yet because I haven't started the kit. I know however that Fujimi released a new kit, the one J. mentioned earlier, that one probably is more detailed than the one I have. But we'll see...!

I just finished the Hasegawa Kirishima and it looks pretty good!

Both, 1/700 scale older and newer kits have written on the outside of the artbox " Sea Way Models" there is no way in saying which one is which one unless you are familiar with the artbox itself ( or the # of series). I took the liberty of finding these 2 kits now it should be easier for you to distinguish one from the other . BTW, none of these two are full hull. HTH

Has anybody ever had the experience in scratchbuilding parts of thebridge in the old Fujimi 1/700 Kongos?

I bought the Kongo girls but do regret a little as the bridge is quite 'bad'... But it may allow me a chance to try and learn some scratchbuilding skills... but where to start?

Does anybody have any advice they can give me?

Here are 2 pics of Kongo during drydock. Top is in 1929, bottom is in 1931. Sorry for large pics.

Dear Boys & Girls is there any way to convert these (any) Kongo class kits their original three-funnel configuration? Is a kit available, or a conversion kit?

Just wondering......

You will have to scratch build much of the hull sides to remove the torpedo blisters added in later refit, and completely redo the stern to restore original shorter stern.

Thank you Chuck, would you know if anyone has ever attempted this? I can't see any images of an early configuration Kongo class battlecruiser in the Modelwarships.com gallery......

I've only ever seen scratch built models of any of the Kongos in their original configurations.

Does anybody know if the KA models wood deck and the Flyhawk Kongo upgrade set work on the Fujimi Kirishima or is it better to go with the TMW and GMM sets? I have a future build planned in 1/700.

Joe's World do a 1:700 Kongo in her original fit. I've heard it is not great---I have it and think it is fantastic but I have not tried to build it nor checked how accurate it is.

Dear Gernot, can you post some images of the Joe's World kit so we can all see it please? Is it still available?

Dear Boys & Girls, I've just bought a copy of Steve Wiper's Shipcraft title on the Kongo class. He recommends other titles for greater detail; I understand that Steve Wiper's own Warship Pictorial 13 is out of print......

He recommends another; Model Art volume 15 which is a Japanese Language title. Can any of you recommend a source to obtain this title please. I am seriously interested in making a model of an early configuration Kongo class battlecruiser, but I'll need references (yes Jim, I am planning to make something). Considering the amount of "surgery" involved would it be better to cut up an old Fujimi 1/700 kit rather than the later Hasegawa 1/700 kit?

Unless Pacific Front Hobbies has them in stock, you're going to have to go the used book route.

Dear Boys & Girls, given the unavailability of the published works, can any of you recommend a source of accurate plans/drawings/elevations for the Kongo class in their original configurations please? I am particularly interested to see the lines of the original stern and the original superstructures.

Outside of what's in the MA #15, I can only think of the Ishibashi BB volume released within the last 2 years. That would be the most accurate source, but very expensive. HLJ has listed it for a July restock at: http://www.hlj.com/product/NAM63223
