Good shot with your model Herbie. I agree with you no man or his dog could have worked in that heat we had here. Today my props go in. I will post ASAP. Maybe even a shot like yours.

I have selected propulsion train - cannot thank Don at Loyalhannadockyard enough -he has come up with motors ect to suit, propellers stuffing boxes ect
Prices brilliant

bad news, Sons car died, so money is tight -but i will get bits a little at a time .

Hi Herb I take it that the smaller Yamato is the Nichmo one? Also what material are you using for the plating.
Awsome build !!!

Here are 2 examples of Yamato hull platiing.

http://blog.livedoor.jp/yamatodamasii12 ... 7.html?p=2

http://www.geocities.jp/nakano_syaji/

Both are in Japanese so you might need googles translator to read it (not very good translation but better than nothing.

Hi Dave

Yes its a Nichimo - building in parrallel to the beast -its my main guide

Plating is a bit of a gamble -i was taught this at the day at huebertus model day -its Scotch 3m tape -apparrently it stays on nicely once sealed under the paint. I double checked this with my chemist who mixed the glass -he says yes that will work -so fingers crossed.
I just could not find details on the size the plates were -I believe they were 17 feet wide -but thats probably wrong. So I went of some photos on a sight where yamato is anchored in Truk -and the photo has been "colored" -the side of the ship looks very, very "chequered" -so thats all I'm trying to achieve -a look like that.
de guassing cable and portholes going on this week -slow but sure. Im speed limited on computer -when back to speed, more photos.

Regarding the hull plates I believe I read somewhere that there were 7 rows of plating on Yamato's side. Also thought I remember that 3 rows were raised 4 were depressed. Wish I kept the link but I can't confirm that. Also the ship was welding at the ends so the hull plates didn't wrap around the ship.

For my Nichimo 1/200 Yamato I'm using 3/8" 3M copper foil shielding tape. Will need to find a way to put rivit marks on them. You plan on putting rivets on yours?

Great job so for Herb!

Edit: Looking at some reference shots it looks like there were 7 hull plate rows above the waterline

I recieved the propellers and shafts from Loyalhanna dockyard yesterday

They are simply a work of art

Photos when I get normal internet speed back -can't upload at the moment.

They were also beautifully package -chance of damage zip!

Thankyou Don - they exceeded my expectations.

Now -how to fit em..............
(More stuff to learn as we go -have to get a soldering iron ect now for rudders , A frames ect. Lots to learn!)
have been building AA gun pits -photos of them when done too.
