I have myself this plans (in paper). And I will use this plans to build a modell in 1:100 scale.
Since 8 years I have searched for information (ca. 12000 fotos) about this ship.

And now I started with building of modell.

Here is a small update. the helo pad markings were done next. The straight lines along with the flags on both sides of the hangar were sprayed white.
The circles were/are a problem. Decals weren't provided, so I stencilled them like we do on the 1:1 thing. Unfortunately the paint is much more liquid, so the result wasn't quite satisfactory. After some touching up with a brush it looks better, although not excellent. Two more lines, small ones going outboard from the large circles have to be placed afterwards.
I might go and search for some stickers like Dave did for his Kiev (although I doubt I'll find anything close to such stickers over here).
With those circles and the lines on the helo hangar doors I noticed the helo handling aid rails are too far apart. In reality the big circle comes closer to smaller one on the other rail, however if I increase the diameter they become so large that it wouldn't fit on the outside of the deck. So I chose to make them slightly smaller.
I'm pretty happy with the flags though. Next up are the stanchions which are shown in the second picture. The triangles are supplied in PE, they're supposed to go with some supplied steel stanchions, but I doubt it would be easy to attach them, so I chose to take a piece of 1mm styrene, make a gap in both sides and slide the triangles in. One of these stanchions is on port side, the other on starboard side of the hangar, after placing them I can start with the liferaft racks and liferafts.
Also the hangar roof is still remaining.

Another update. Going much slower now, the "excellent progress" starts to take its toll I guess. Heard today that I'll be staying longer at home, not such good news, I tend to get bored then. And I can't keep building all day long, weeks on end on the same thing.
Tried to get started on the helicopter, with moderate succes, also did some more detailing on the Podkat radar to mount it on top of the hangar. And of course the tedious testing of the hangar roof top system. Practically it would be best to make the rails in PE to have them strong enough and fine enough. However I'm making it from styrene and hence it's a little oversized and weaker (strengthened it with some PE bars and CA to keep it stronger though). But ok, I'm ready to pay that price for an opening hangar.

On the particular period I'm modelling Tributs, she had two grey liferafts on each side, mounted like they are on the model. I guess they were repainting them underway, because pictures of slightly later show them all white.

Hi Roel You mentioned the helo, KA27. Was this part of the kit or did you have to source this as an extra?.

Great work Roel! You're an inspiration!!!

The moment I bought this Udaloy, the helicopter was still in development (to be delivered with the Arkmodel Type 052B), however, by the time I got my kit, the first prototypes were there, so I got only a resin fuselage. Nothing else, no blades, no wheels, no tail planes...
Here is the initial effort for the forewheels. As you can see in the beginning, the helo is actually a Ka-27 Helix-A, while the Tributs along with others, mainly carries the Ka-27PS Helix-D. So some conversion was necessary, the main difference I guess, are those two small "bumps" on both sides of the fuselage. I removed these, on the portside of the helo, the D-version carries a rescue winch instead of that bump, so I'll have to add that.
The last pic is where we are, horizontal tail planes are there, forewheels and the starboard aft wheel. First I'll have to fabricate that winch with its support, then I can install the portside wheel. Once that is finished I'll start with the huge tree with propellors.
The D-version also carries a rack for two depth charges on starboard side, just behind the aft wheel and the thing with the two red balls below the tail. I'll have to make all of that too.
I got a little held up though...

Mine didn't come with a helicopter at all! When I questioned where it was as it was on the parts list they told me that it was "still in the factory" and that they would supply at a later date when they have it!

Continuing on that helo, at least I should finish that one before I put this build on the backburner.
The wheels are there, and also the tail surfaces. They look a little too small, but I'm not sure how it will come out once they are painted. The helo just fits in the hanger, with the wheels nicely positioned at the end of the reel on the elevator.

The exhausts of the helo are just fitting, but on the resin model they are too broad anyway, I'll have to cut them slightly and change the shape a little too. Also the windows are a little too broad, they are indeed not flat, slightly curved, but not as much as this resin fuselage suggests.

Steve, I think I did see the tail surfaces of the helicopter in the picture you took of the frame with the forward part of your main deck in it... At least you have some parts that I don't have... I guess together we received one helicopter But ok, I solved that small problem already. Off to the depth charge rack and the propellors.

Fun part of this is that during the day I can use the saw and make noise, but at night, when I can't make noise, I can proceed with the helicopter (and perhaps, Podkat radar)

You are of course spot on! The parts for the rear that you have added in the last pictures above are provided... haven't checked the PE for wheel struts or rotors yet though. If its of any use I can scale them for you so that you can check against yours?

I have to say that the picture with the helo in the open hanger is FANTASTIC! Got me wondering now if I should see if I can emulate your efforts!

So, here is finally another update.
I glued on the main deck after some testing last summer (lost a propellor in astern movement though). I guess that gives me a good excuse to finally get the right propellors.

After gluing the deck and filling the edges (not sanded yet) I've added the tracks on the main deck.
I've also reconstructed most of the AK-630 supports as I glued them with the wrong glue before. The back and front panel were missing in the kit, so I've made these myself (one still to be added as can be seen in the picture).
the entry to the R/C gear is just between those structures, they are fixed, but the deck in between, with part of the tracks is removable (all the way and including the forward Kinzhal launchers.




Next up is the sanding down of the tracks and deck edges. Then painting and some bollards, although I think I'll put the PE on the forward funnels first. So much work to do and so "little" time to do it.

That will significantly increase drain on the motors and noise when it is running.

You need to have the shafts and the motors as closely aligned as possible, I know it is a pain, but having learnt this lesson the hard way, I really really recommend seeing what you can do to straighten out that line up.

thanks for the advice, it indeed makes a lot of noise, but I can't really find a solution. There just isn't enough space to align them in a better way. Anyway I'll think it over again, I can still reach them.

I would reccomend my tried and trusty method of using bathroom sealant to attach the motors to the bottom of the hull first of all; even using that method you may still have to move the motors forward a little. if that is not possible I would think about mounting the motors higher and using a belt drive, this though would put your C of G higher as well of course and could cause other problems.

Running it with this set up is going to cause many problems though, the least of which will the noise.
