hello all,i have a question.on the 11 and 5.9 in guns ,most of the models show blast bags, but i have not came across any pics of the real ship showing them, there are pics of s.c fireing and plowing into heavy seas ,but there are no blast bags.my question is should i add blast bags or not?

Looking good!
Still like this ship, somehow the Germans made a perfectly balanced design.

Greetings Josse

Hi Russ :wave_1:
Most photos in the book ( Heavy Cruisers of the Admiral Hipper Class ) show no external blast bags but some DO . That must mean they installed them as needed . pg-34 in the book ( Schwere Kreuzer Admiral Hipper ,Blucher und Prinz Eugen )shows the curved shield that is between the barrel and the breach. It would show when there are no blast bags .
Why don't you show her frozen in a point in time when they were just installing them .That way you could have one turret with bags and the rest not . You will see Bismarck with and with out them .
You did a supper job on Nagato's blast bags . :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

thanks richard, this has me scrathing my head i to have pics of the heavy cruisers and the battleships with blast bags ,but none of graff spree, lutzow or sheer. i even have a pic of lutzow with her guns trained to the beam with spray flying all over the place if there where blast bags one would think they would be on.to add them or not is away in the future so i will keep researching them. here,s some pics of a 5.9" gun ,the barrels are brass and copper tubing,to get the tapper i put the pieces in my dremel and held a file to the spinning piece, had to be carefull not to go to thin on the small end.seemed to work o.k i forgot to put a layer of putty on the resin part ,so it shows a few inperfections, will be fixed.

thanks for the coments guys, much apppreceated, all my castings are now done, even the ships boats,i am getting way to far ahead of myself.i have to many things started ,but not finished,i am going to find out the color of gray i need and finish the guns and the boats before i start anything else.also finish the hull ,if i do not i will surely lose focus and quality will suffer :heh:

ok the 5.9,s are done, the lighting in my room seems to screw up the color a bit,the paint is a lot lighter gray than is showing, not so blue. depending on the exact time of modeling s.c , 4 of the turrets could have a life raft on top .here,s some pics

thanks richard, norbert.i roughed in the tubeular tower bridge ,as i always do it is balsa and bass wood sheeted with styrene.i just cannot cut thick styrene worth as dam, easyer for me to skin balsa with thinner styrene.lots to do still, doors windows, bracing and much more,i just wanted to see how it would look and make sure the measurements worked out right.the pics show it just sitting on top of each other.it took a while to get it to stand long enough to get some pics ,but if it stands without glue it must be fairly sqaure and true.

How did you get the splinter shields to bend around those corners?

thanks ron, norbert . hello les ,i sheet the balsa with .10mm styrene, the splinter shields are .30mm styrene, and the roll over on the top is .35mm styrene rod.i will fill in the little gap at the top with bondo putty this will smooth out the curve.i have tried and tried to make styrene curve and lean out ,i can't do it so i cheat, not 100% accurate but it looks o.k.. the rod is glued to the front of the shield not the top this give the look of a rolled edge.
