Another dozen A-4Es again from CVW-16. The squadron is VA-163 Saints onboard CVA-34 in 1966-68.





Unfortunately i don t have any F-8Es, E-1 or A-3s to complete the airwing. I will order them though today.

Does anyone have a left over decal sheets with stern ship's name decal from any AB DDG 1/700 kits that have "John S. McCain" on them? It is DDG-56. I need a couple (an extra for "just in case") for my USS John S. McCain DL-3.

For now, I'll pass on the F-32's Nektarios, I'm not sure how many carriers I'll build, especially American ones, but if you still have them and I have a concept for a thought come to mind, I'll give pop you a note.

Well, it turns out I've got to add some warning markers around my Mightier Mo, John just pointed out that crewmen would be wise to avoid walking the decks around the AEGIS arrays when they're active, or they'd get their arses cooked. I could just see somebody deciding to roast marshmallows off the array radiation though.

That had crossed my mind too, Simon, but it didn't want to burst your creative bubble. I thought that they should have been mounted much higher than they are. Sorry.

He said don't worry about it in the PM, he was also thanking me for the aircraft I sent him for his Baku, even if the postal service destroyed half (oops, should have used more bubble wrap, or the box I got them in). I'm just going to add some red/white warning lines to the decks. If that's one thing I've noticed here, it's that unlike some of the other main modelling forums, we seem to have a notable, thankfully, lack of heavyweight JMNs. Or, they're just not majorly vocal (yay!).

Ah well, crap happens. I'll snap a couple more pics once I've cleaned up the paintwork that my sanding the putty destroyed on the decks. Once I've got the decks repainted, thrown a little on the VLS mounts, and the Post Office has been painted, or as John called it, the Floating Ammo Depot (I laughed), I'll snap a few for you boys once I've picked out some of the details. Yes, my AEGIS arrays again got the dark bluegray - I know it's inaccurate, but it's a small splash of colour on the gray structure. I also did the bluegray on the CIWS domes, for uniformity. I might just do all the radar systems in it.

Well Guys, I have to warn you ahead of time. My next project, after the McCain, won't fit in this forum thread. Too, big.

I'm jumping to 1/350 for a special "I just gotta!" build(s). It / they just arrived in the mail, today!!! "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO MYSELF!!!"

Shhhhh! Its a secret, unless you can figure it out. If you know, just PM me. I'll let you know if you're right, but I want it to be a surprise at the 2009 IPMS Nationals. If I can keep it a secret, myself. My heart always wants to share and it gets the better of me, sometimes. (Most of the time, actually.)

I'm just going to add some red/white warning lines to the decks. If that's one thing I've noticed here, it's that unlike some of the other main modelling forums, we seem to have a notable, thankfully, lack of heavyweight JMNs. Or, they're just not majorly vocal (yay!).

How about red railings instead of (or in addition to) the warning deck lines? Some SPRUCANS have red railings around some of their transmitting antennas, amidships.

Red railing's an idea, but me, I'm not notably one to do railings in general. Part of me just dreads that thought, as it brings to mind horrid thoughts of me cursing and swearing and getting frustrated with the railings because they won't stay in place. I Dread the thought of doing railings, but that's just me.

I've made progress on the masts, today. David at LCP responded promptly to my plea for help on the aft mast. He even took new photos of his build, for me, to show how the aft mast and stack are to be assembled. Thanks, David!

They are very different types of masts than what I have assembled before. I have stengthened up the PE with some .028" brass rod in preparation for the rigging lines that will come later. I'll have to straighten the foremast a little using the rigging lines on the starboard side and make lean back to the starboard a little.

I am pondering about the color of the masts above the funnel caps. It most pictures, the aft mast is black but the foremast is gray. I have seen one picture of DL-4 with a black foremast above the funnel. I like that look and will probably replicate that on my McCain, anatomically correct or not.

Hey, I was asking John, and I figured I'd ask you boys as well... Anybody happen to have a couple of newer, as in Arleigh Burke or Ticonderoga, 5" Fire Control Radars? I'm looking to get a couple for Mightier Mo, going to replace the old 5" Directors. While we're at it, any good ideas for a new 16" FC Radar, to be hidden under a dome of suitable size? I figure why not, it would probably get updated, I'm only looking to mount two 5" radars though, fore and aft centerline. I might be deleting the broadside directors if I install the sixth VLS block, which will be decided when I pick up a suitable saw for my chop-job work. I'm not sure entirely if I'm going to put in block 6, but I likely will.

Carl, you have to remember before you wondered just how many VLS I was putting in, my signature - It's not Overkill, it's Insurance.

The 5" fire control radar on Ticos is Mk-86 if i m not wrong. It is located inside the dome on the foremast. I may have one or two of those domes. I must search for these domes in order to find them in the spares box(es). Tell me if you re interested in these domes.
