Hi Moomoon thanks for your comments. Yes we all have a slant to wards a particular type of ship but it is refreshing at times to see something differentmoomoon wrote:This is not the kind of ship I like... yet this model could make me change my mind![]()

Hi Russ good to hear from you .Even now at this 11th hour there is much to do but I agree there is a sence of anti climax . The one part of the build I have not mentioned is to get the ship to water. That as you know is always a trying time and may well have to wait until the spring unless we get a quiet calm winters day?. As for the next project, like Bill I may wonder off and build a smaller, slightly different type of warship just to mark time until my new set of plans are all completedrussclark wrote:hello dave kiev is looking exellent,To me coming to the end of a build is a little bit of a let down,After all the hours spent researching and building one looks at the finished product and thinks it's done now what.I am sure kiev will win many awards ,and much praise from all who look at her ,Well done

Hi Dave,
youve made some great progress on your model! The russions carried quite a lot of artwork on their ships! Superb attention to details!
I also like the aircrafts - are you going to post figueres on the model?
Bye!

Hi 109 Yes a deck crew will embark on Kiev and it will be one of the last jobs before the ship can be said to be finished. There seems to be a question as to whether it is appropriate or not to have a crew on a model . I know Joseph Kaiser has a crew on his Bismarck but other modellers show no crew, which is often the case on models seen in maritime museums .I often wonders which school of thought is right? Kiev will be the first model I have built with a deck crew .109 wrote:Hi Dave,

Good questions. There will always be some guys who like crews on models and those who dont like it.
I am thinking of having one figure either on the model or on the stand of my Bismarck as a scale - in some 20 years I guess.
Bye now!

My two kuruses (Turkish cents
though the lowest denomination is 5 kr, so 2 kr is technically impossible) on figures on models:
In my opinion, a R/C model represents a miniaturized version of the working, moving vessel. In such a case, if the ship model itself is a live and moving object, then it stands to reason that all parts that would be moving should also be moving. Figures, unfortunately, cannot be moved, and so they remain the only aspect of your model that will be unrealistic in the context of the model sailing on the water. Aircraft, radars, and other parts on the real ship that could move can remain static because there exists situations where they would not be moving, and thus can also remain static on the model.
In contrast, static models represent a snapshot or photograph of the ship, and thus they can have figures on board, standing still, without looking odd.

Hi Timmy I trust you are enjoying the glories of Byzantium and the splendor of the Ottoman Empire. Yes I have to agree on what you say, your logic is sound. However having seen models such as Ted Parrs awesome Nimitz the thought of that model minus crew would seem a contradiction in terms. I took these pictures that perhaps can be used as examples . The first shows John Glossops 1:96 HMS Albion circa 1960s as seen at the Fleet Air Arm Museum , the second example is Joe Milwards 1:96 fully working HMS Ocean { no deck crew} and the finally Ted Parrs Nimitz a snap shot in time just as if it where a real vessel. With out a deck crew would the Nimitz be the same model and would the effect be the same? Judge for yourself.Timmy C wrote:My two kuruses (Turkish centsthough the lowest denomination is 5 kr, so 2 kr is technically impossible) on figures on models:
