I was going through my great grandfathers photo album and found a picture of the Zinnia. He served on her in the great war. I was doing a web search on the vessel when I found your build.

The photo is full length, port side, flying Royal Ensign about 13cm by 7cm, would a scanned copy help your build?

Hi Richard ,

Yes , I would be pleased to get a copy of this picture , but I would prefer to see this picture on this very forum , I'm not the kind of guy who wants to keep such information for himself ...

Many thanks anyway

Looking very nice as usual! - particularly the hull plating detail.
I am soon going to have to make about 25 eyebrows for Peder Skram and 50-60+ for HMS Abdiel, a job I am not looking forward to - although I've had some success using metal wire ones as you have done, I'm considering ordering some PE ones from John R Haynes, which aren't too pricey.

Hi Guys ,

it's been a long while , he ?

I've been busy , a lot , those last weeks , so there couldn't be worked on Zinnia ...

I've built the washports , they are done in cardboard and are mobile , they swivel round a brass rod :

seen from inside :

Image

I did them mobile to be sure that any green water coming on the decks will wash away while sailing , it really is a little model on the water

As many , I always have had problems with soldering brass ...

I decided once again to give it a try , and this time , I succeeded in soldering one of the mast's shrouds & rat lines and some two holes stanchions .

the stanchions are made out of a 0,5 mm wire , with 0,3 mm thick bras wire for the holes :

Image
Image

I did already 20 stanchions , still 50 to go

here under the after mast rigging , I used 0,5 mm wire for the shrouds and 0,3 mm wire for the rat lines :

other updates should come soon :wave_1:

Regards ,

Hi Guys ,

thanks for your inputs :thumbs_up_1:

This week , I worked a little on the two masts rigging .

here under my way of soldering the stays & ratlines :

Image
Image

the masts being fitted & rigged :

Image
Image
Image

to fix the upper part of the stays , I use home made shackles , made in 0,3 mm brass wire
Image

the stanchions holding the wheelhouse deck

Image

I got from someone , an english man , a few days ago , a picture of the Zinnia , while at anchor , in february 1935 , this picture is very sharp :

Image

Of course , if I had had this picture beforehand , I would have done some things different , I just see now that the ladder on the wheelhouse deck leading to the monkey bridge has been moved from the left side of the wheelhouse to the rear , I also see that the wheelhouse deck has been enlarged ...

:mad_2: :pout:

Well , some further works that will have to be executed , nothing worse , might be happy instead , I guess :woo_hoo:

Regards ,

Laurent
