I ordered some from Burkhardt Masch. There are pics of them in the other AZ thread:Does any one know where I can get brass barrels for tha main guns on my 1/350 "zona"?

When ships painted into the camouflage measures the names were to be painted over with the camouflage paint. Unless you have really tiny PE letters and can get them perfectly aligned I wouldn't bother in 1/700.Tony Bunch wrote:Tracy,

To Dick Wood and any others who might be interested,
As far as the smoke pipe tops go, I have yet to find any definative reference as to how far down the stack the "pie shaped" sections went before transitioning to some other shape. I do know that there were six sections, corresponding to the six fire rooms below. The purpose of the separate pipes was to allow the boiler operators and topside lookouts to tell which fire room might be smoking (white or black) excessively, indicating an ineffecient fuel burn.
My recommendation is to build the pie shapes down no more than 1/4 the height of the external stack and with the flat black paint and maybe some fine texturing (I like talcum powder) the visual effect will be about as good as you can get with what we do know.

This model went together fairly well. It was not 100% accurate, as I came to discover. The project was fun for me, as I got to share with the Az fans and gain some insight into another fascinating ships'....."life"!

Hi Guys,
Tim,
I actually painted the windows on both fighting tops with a .5mm artists marker, and then tried to dry brush 5-L atop....did not work. The black still showed through beneath. The problem was, when I used the black marker, I did not keep to within the, "window frames"; otherwise I'd not have needed to do the dry-brushing or whatever afterwards. I just re-painted the fighting tops a second time with 5-L, and called it finished.
Note: The 1/700 Dragon Arizona fighting tops, (on my kit), had window frames of the wrong shape and in the wrong numbers.
I actually filled and sanded the kits' fighting tops to closer match the photos and drawings.
It never ceases to confound me....why did the kit manufactuer do these wrong? Was it actually not known, (the differences), or was it determined more practical/profitable doing the kit incorrectly?
I'll never know, but I am looking forward to buying and maybe building the new Dragon Pennsyl-tucky.....er uh.....Pennsylvania!
All I can think of when I hear the name Pennsylvania....is the old Revell 1/720th kit and its' most cool box art! Throws me back every time!
