A very impressive build, and your idea to use a heavy paper-cutter on the sheet styrene is interesting and seems like it would be quite a time-saver. I'm sure every American reading this thread remembers using them in school for construction paper!

I only have one question: for the post-and-wire railing, do you have any plans to introduce some slack? I've seen a few pictures here and there that may seem to indicate that the bar railing may have actually been chain or steel wire. Of course, that does not preclude my falling for an optical illusion; nevertheless it would seem that some degree of "sag" may be called for.

Some slack representing chain or steel wire has already been used on both side of the hull for the railing, but on photos I don't see such thing around the flightdeck where I'm working now.

Though I do not envy you the flight deck planking job. Will you be crafting the air wing from 1/72 kits or scratchbuilding them? Personally I recommend the former; Hasegawa has some good kits in that scale, as does Tamiya, though Hasegawa offers combo deals (one box, two kits!) on some of their planes, usually with a running theme (Zeros of the 352nd, Hellcat aces, etc).

Stunned by the details you manage to create, and the level of cleanness you manage to get in your build in 1/72.
I am at the very beginnings of building a Britsh Rapana class MAC vessel in 1/72 , and lack many details that i can copy from your work here...

One of the items missing is hull crosssection drawings. The Rapana in 1/72 is going to be 1.9 m x 24 cm hull width, does that match with your Casablanca? if so I can modify Cacablanca bow and aft crosssections i found in order to have something to work from..
I find escort carrier hulls to be quite similar.

One again, in awe of your work here!

Hi skybert and thanks for your comment, the hull of my 1/72 casablanca class is 2.1m x 28cm, it's pretty much the same, you can easily use it and adapt it, the technology available at that time was the same for every ship and shared by US/british, the bow of the hull need very few modification and the aft platform is more higher on a Rapana class, the shape of the hull look the same between the bow and aft, feel free to use anything you need on my work, I spent an awful lot of time collecting every accurate information available and anybody wanting to do the same work will be relieved of this task.

Just a small question. Some of the pipe rail is done by stations and a few pieces from styrene, what is your method to bend the styrene and have it hold shape? For my 1:192 project it wouldn't be used for lifelines but other misc piping and rig.

Nice indeed! One note on the 40 mm Bodors: since the mounts are manned at GQ, the covers over the loading slots should be removed. At smaller scales or for a secured mount the covers could be in place but for a mount ready for loading the cover is removed and the slot that holds the clipped shells consists of some open fingers that retain the shells as they feed into the gun.

Minor detail and no one will probably notice. HNSA has a mx manual on the 40 mm which shows what these look like. I probably won't be able to reproduce this detail at 1:192 if I get around to making the Quads for my CB1

Thanks for your info about the bofors but I already know that, it doesn't really matter about the covers because this ship is for wargame, sometime the cover is on, sometime not so it was time saving not to modify this part of the bofors.

The evergreen styren rods keep shape only after being glued, you bend it with whatever you want and glue it immediately, that's all.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I am sure this will stimulate more examples of the "Jeep" Carriers. I was wondering, and I guess will try when I get back from my trip, is wether or not applying some solvent to the bends softens the styrene? As always great info on this site!

Looking at the hull cross section curves on page six as a template for my Rapana class, do you still have the dimensions of distribution of the sations from bow to aft somewhere as well mate?

I'm going to buy wood for the hull today ! looking forward to get started and enjoy a xmas holiday full of modelling

Here is photos you can enlarge to the right dimension and print, numbers are distance in inch starting from the bow (right part) to the middle and left part is the middle to aft. Wish you a nice christmas, my ship will probably not be finished for Santa Claus to see it but I'm getting close to full completion. I'm sure you will build a nice ship !

I get it ADM... Clear instructions.. On this drawing, where did your waterline start, looking up
from baseline?

My waterline is 11,5cm from the base line (see second photo, it's the part I'm not using, except in green : 10mm base plywood), it mean the hull is 15 cm high (13,3 cm for the profiles + 10 mm plywood for the base + 7 mm for flightdeck, including 5mm plywood and 2 mm planking), the first photo show the part above the water I've used. The largest size for profile is 27,7cm (width) + 1mm plywood to cover and around 2mm for resin (3 layers), so the total is 28cm.
