Question concerning the pump jet on the Borei class boomers:

What color is the intake? Are the vanes a different color than the shroud?

I've found many pics from behind looking into the pump jet and you can see the blades, but I can't find any pics from the front looking into the intake.

Any help will be appreciated.

Came across this series of photos today: http://kuleshovoleg.livejournal.com/71618.html
Most interesting is the crane structure on the bow of the Novomoskovsk.

According to these guys, it's a mast for calibrating sonar based on bearing angle. The nickname is "Fishing Rod" (Udochka).

Is this one digitally censored? or can someone identify what is sticking up from the sail?

Yeah, that last one definitely went through the 'Shop. The clouds behind the masts are a dead giveaway. But what's so secretive about the usual submarine sensor masts? Hmm...

The blog below has a lot of color pics of Russian subs, 24 blog pages worth:

http://forums.airbase.ru/2008/02/t60319 ... -bdrm.html

On page 21, there are March 2012 pics of K-51 Verkhoturye (Delta IV) coming out of maintenance with a completely black hull. No red panels at all.

Wouldn't mind seeing a modern-tooled and accurate version of a 1:350 Typhoon.

I think I'd be seriously tempted to build it as the Red October, with the magneto-hydrodynamic doors open, of course :)

I couldn't work out how to navigate around the various pages of the blog, but I did find a photo of a black hulled K-51 here:

I bitterly regret selling my Alanger Delta IV...I hope someone else releases one in 350th scale.

I'm not sure what happened to the link to the Russian website. The url changes to a different forum. I'll see if I can dig out the correct page.

edit: it's an error with the site. They're trying to recover the site. Here's the Google translation:

In the DB index climbed a tricky bug. Work still does not work with forums, although dump is, but there is no guarantee of successful recovery. Revived until mysql as I could, but the forums still disconnected from harm's way. Talk here. I'm still going to bed. Good sleep, Have a continuation of recovery.

For the safety data do not need to worry, the data is and in yesterday's backup, and more, like, all right. The problem is purely technical.

Actually, Alanger had one out about three years ago, but it was on the market and then out of production within a matter of weeks.
It was very accurate, with the correct stern, unlike the Deagon guesswork.

In the Youtube video, around 21 seconds in...there's definitely a linear color change on the lower hull, which is probably red. Hard to tell exactly, but what else would it be??

(Hopefully the video is authentically K-278)

I've heard that the Alanger kit while shape wise to be very very good, it messed up in other areas.

For example, hardly any panels lines. Most of the time that's no big deal, but hatches and the torpedo tube doors, the dive plane doors as well were omitted.
Also, I've heard but not been able to verify, that the overall length is too long, by as much as .75". Anybody else got info on how correct this kit is?

With all this in mind what is considered the best 1/350 Typhoon kit?

I've built the Alanger 1/350 Typhoon. You are correct, the dive plane panels and torpedo tubes are not shown. Neither are the anechoic tiles.

I didn't measure the overall length, so I can't address that. I can say though that the upper hull in my kit was about 1 mm longer than the lower hull, so there was some work involved getting the two to look right when assembled.

By some quick arithmetic, a Russian Typhoon in 1:350 should be 19 5/8" inches long.

A darn big submarine indeed!

For example, hardly any panels lines.
Let me say this one more time, with emphasis: There are no panel lines on submarines! Panel lines as seen on, e.g. aircraft models, would not be present on a submarine hull. When hull sections are welded together the welds are built up in successive sections and then the weld bead ground down flush to the hull. On US Subs, the weld bead must be ground to within 1/16th of an inch of the hull.
Torpedo tubes should be represented as scribed lines, as should be access hatches, free flooding storage areas, and ballast tank flood ports. I'm not sure if the tiles could be represented accurately at 1/350 scale.
