Thanks to all! I must admit, I really enjoyed building the waterline depiction of the model. I was hoping to pull it off, and I believe that I did. I am finding that one's self is your worst critic. Spending hours to make it right, or at least close to believable, then fretting if it really is right. These WW2 ships went through so many changes during thier useful life, it can be difficult to pin down anything.I am 56 years of age, refered to as one of the "senior modelers" on this site. God, thats sounds like I'm getting old! Been at this modeling thing for 46 years, in one form or another and I"ll tell you this, you never stop learning or stumbling across new things and new ways of doing those things. Thats part of the worthwhile thing. The other part is trying to leave sort of a living legacy of those brave souls, mostly 18 or a bit older during WW2, some who gave their lives for this country. I spose I am a bit patriotic, but I have met many of these men who used to be no more than kids. They are all in the twilight of their lives now, and we all lose many of them as time enoxorably moves on. They were called the "Greatest Generation". That is so true. Whats happened to us all? Where's that spirit this country used to have back then. I sure hope it's still there, somewhere. Am I rambling on...........must be the wine! I guess this pretty much ends this thread. I'm telling ya Bill, you are not to fret 'cause you NAILED IT, spot on!!! Bravo Zulu on the Santee old friend, she's one of the best I've seen. What a wonderful testimonial to her crew, to all who served and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I agree, these men and women truly are The Greatest Generation and it is a wonderful thing to be able to memorialize and pay tribute to them in this way. Frankly, I find it inspiring. (and slightly envious)

What's happened to us all? Too many people have forgotten. When one forgets, one takes things for granted. This is why it's up to people like you and me to carry on, carry the torch for those who can no longer, remind others and remember sacrifices made. Have faith, not all of us have forgotten or thown the past to the winds... You've proved that. That spirit is still there, I've seen it. We still carry on, we always will.

Hello, all!

I live in the Virginia Beach area, and I am a docent at the USS Wisconsin. When I was going to volunteer a few weeks ago, I came across the Santee on my way out to the Wisconsin, and man what a pleasure. I had no idea Bill had done it. I looked at it and examined it, and man did I admire the detail involved. In the mean time, however, I found out that it was Bill's and it's a pleasure to be able to talk to the artist who constructed such a thing.

I must say the pictures do NOT do the real thing justice. I have always been a fan of the large scale models. They are the apex of model art, I think. It's something you have to walk down and across to see. There are some large scale models that seem to be rushed so they lack a lot of detail like down-pipes, markings, deck fittings, etc. Santee, on the other hand, looks really, really great. I can only imagine what a 1/96 version of the 1991 USS Wisconsin would look like. Talking about artwork.

If you ever get a chance to go by Nauticus in Norfolk, Virginia, you must go by and take a look at the Santee. You can't miss it.

Congrats Bill, I just wish my 1/350 carrier hulls were as good as your big ones.
