I have to agree. . . but I lack skill and talent to be anywhere near accurate. I know this, so it's cool with me. I am still mostly an out of the box, follow the directions add PE, stand back and say, "Wow, look what I did!"

Then I come here, see the mind blowing detail, dedication to accuracy, and the skill set to put it all together, and I am amazed. But this just makes me try all the harder to push myself to do something new, more accurately, or neater.

OK, OK, I'm off my little soap box, and I'll shut up now.

It is good to build your model accurately. As Bob said it would be a mistake too big for a WW2 aircraft carrier with angled deck. However, how far you would go is all related to the references you have and your skill. It is a model in scale and we are only ordinary men. Don't do it like those Chinese painting on a rice or the other gentleman doing sculpture on egg shells. Just do it the way that you feel comfortable. When it is finished, sit back and admire the work you just did. Five or ten years later you might find it below your standard, it is because there is an improvement in your skill. So, let's go and enjoy building models, whatever it is out of the box, or extensively modified.

Thanks for the good words about my North Carolina kit.
Let me just say this about building the kit. . . Your going to have a blast! I used the GMM PE kit, and seriously the only thing that stumped me was that I needed to use the bottom plastic (round plate) for the PE catapults. Without them the cats sat to low.

The kit is great, the directions are easy to follow (although I did a lot of it out of sequence placing the small deck parts last) As for the PE kit it's fantastic. This was my first serious build, and I'm happy I started with the NC.

If I had it to do again I wouldn't change anything except make sure I put the 50cal gun sights on the right way. I had half of them going backward.

Enjoy the build. I'll be excited to follow your posts.

Superb built Douglas. A great inspiration to all of us I'm sure. I was wonderign how you did the anti-slip walkways? Masking and painting or some kind of stencils? Looking forward for your progress update

The anti slip mark is a decal sheet produced by Nautilus. It looks in early type Fletcher(s) the walkways were painted solid. Well, I have the decal sheet and I think it looks good, so I put it on.

Superb job Douglas. I admire your work and your tenacity in staying with it. I have the the base made, the finials attached, and the hull halves together . . . and that's taken me near three months!

Haha, Bombay Daily, I too worked very slowly. Don't rush, and there is no need to. When you feel the hot is on, then do it. We do this only for fun and self achievement, so it is absolutely all right to take as long as you like. Show us your work when it is ready. We will be here.
