Sure will, I will not be working on them for a bit this CVN is taking a while and the planes are not even together yet. It is not because of lack of ambition but time. I am learning many new things at work (which is great) that when I get home I am almost too tired to work on the model. So, the LHD's will not be for a while.

Alright, 2AM and I have finished the USS Black! I just had to get the dome on the torpedo rack, the boats on, the barrels on the oerlikons, the radar dish, the side walls, and she was good to go. The Numbers on the bow are hand painted, so yeah, they can be a little crooked in some places.











There ya go, boys. Next thought tickling my mind is a Super Gearing, with 54" mains and 3" guns, all decked out for No-Fly-Zone concepts.

Very nice, great concept and it looks viable. I think I would have simply replaced the aft 5" turret with the 3" twin. I also might have moved the single 3" off to one side, or maybe deleted it altogether. Not a critcism, just the musings of someone who has too much time on his hands. I am working on something similar, based on one of the preliminary designs for the Allen M. Sumner class. It'll turn out much like the drawing, except for a slightly modified forward deckhouse. Yeah, it's a hindsight thought in some ways, Ave. I put the twin 3" on the Fantail reminiscent of the earlier heavy fantail mountings on the Fletchers, when they had 40mm mountings on the back. It was also a concept of producing the heaviest firepower.

My next step is to take a Sumner/Gearing, with three twin 3" mounts along the back, two singles up forward, and 54cal main barrels. I think I'll have enough 54cal barrels floating around to regun the twin turrets when I get there. That's on the list of "Soon�"

Cool That s a heavily armed warship for is size. Can t wait to see the Super Gearing.

Now I wonder how accurate the bow is on this one. You'll have to post some pics when you get it I notice that alot of manufacturers get the bow /hull wrong on ships for some reason...

Thanks Nektarios! I didn't expect the crane to turn out like that, so I'm also happy with the result. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have her ready for painting.

Thanks, guys - I just ordered a Sumner (for some reason Pitroad pulled the Gearings from production) that I plan to remove the aft rack from for another tub with a twin 3" gun on it. I did an eyeball comparison between the Gearing and Sumner, that's the only visible modification saw. I also ordered another Skywave E-6 Equipment set, I'm running short on the twin 3" guns, and the detail on them is damn nice.

As well, with that order, I dialled in a Shimakaze and the IJN Equipment I set - I plan on doing a Shimakaze with improved AA firepower - three 10cm twin turrets in place of the original 12.7cm guns. I'm considering modifying it further to include covered triple 25mm positions for better crew protection under heavy fire. I figure the weight lost from the 10cm guns vs the 12.7's might offset the added weight from the covered 25mm mountings.

Nope but it is a must have for postwar USN carrier fans. Are you building only carriers capable of carrying A/RA-5 ?

Pretty much outside of CV-8. It had B-25s

Here are a couple of photos the first showing CV-59 with a Vigi on Cat nr. 2 and the second one with perhaps the most beautiful carrier based heavy bomber.

I'm a Vigi nut & also am doing a 1960 era Forrestal since my uncle flew A-3s off her with VAH-5 This last one is of my uncle's Vigi abd Ranger after leaving PH headed for Nam

Eddie, since your uncle served on CV-59 which at the time was homeported on the east coast did he participate in the naval blockade during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 ???

Nope, He was at NAS Pax River,MD with TPS from Oct 1, 1962 to July '63. Stayed on as a Test pilot until returning to the fleet in Apr 1965 for Vigi training & then to Vietnam

This is what happens to most decommisioned ships. CV-62, CV-63 and CV-64, AOE-1 and AOE-2 a Knox class FF a Ticonderoga class CG and a couple of Perry class FFGs. The two Perry class and the Ticonderoga class ship were commissioned after i was born is this a sign i m getting old???
