The reason that he chose for a `strange scale`is his example. He got the Tamiya Yamato 1:350 as gift. He had two optionssetori wrote:Excellent, very crisp !
But why such a strange scale ????????????????
a scale of 1:100 or 1:117. By scale 1:100 the lenght was 265 cm. That's to much lenght for transport in his car.
