Alright I'm letting the cat out of the bag,I widened the stern to install 4 a/c launchers, and just forward of that in the middle I'm putting a elevator in for a small hanger bay. But if I can squeeze some more AA in you know I'm going to have to do it :cool_2:

Here's the latest update. I have finished gluing the sections together, which I might add was very fun :doh_1: Then I began puttying the massive hole along the keel.I ran out of putty so my progress was stopped I have to run and get some more today. After I finish the keel I'm going to start cleaning up the sides.

Looks like a triple screw design... unless he planes off the screws and redoes them custom.

That thing's a monster. The only way to improve that would be to have the secondary battery with 8T3x15cm L60 guns. Those would be perfect secondary battery for this beast. Four Konigsberg/Nurnberg turrets a side... a dozen long range 15cm shells. Couple that with the 105mm Heavy AA and she'd be pretty hefty. Don't forget all the lighter AA. Damn, that thing's a monster... makes me want to do one, at some point... though I'd still do two twins over two quads and call it the Kaiser Wilhelm II just to thumb a German nose at the Brits.

Thanks gents, Actually I think i'm going to finish the hull first and then move on to the screws. Simply because the hull is although stiff ,I believe it's still in the fragile stage so I don't want to get ahead of myself and do more damage and mess it up. The screw placement is going to be a pain to position them so they don't look weird. question if i took the main guns off of a 1/700 arizona and placed them for my second battery what would that convert them to ? I think it would be in the neighborhood of 5" , but i'm not that good with math. The arizona mains were 356mm, so if the scale i'm doing the ship in is 1/350 would i just cut the size in half and come up with 178 mm or would i have to do some extra work to finish that formula ?

If an object is 14" in 1/700, and you're using it on a 1/350 model, it would then become 7".

Thank you Timmy, that's how I thought it went but wasn't sure. So that means my batteries will be

Main: 16 x 14.95"

Second: 12 x 7"

Third: 24 x 5.9" ( at least)
Should make for a pretty decent BB :woo_hoo:

If you keep to that plan, though, the end result is she'll be similar to a Pre-dreadnought battleship, with three different calibers of heavy guns. The end result is that it creates a logistical problem for having those guns in place, because you've got all the additional magazine space.. I'd suggest dispensing with the 17.8cm (7") guns in your secondary slot, and potentially considering either something like 8" L65's similar to the Admiral Hipper, which would be going for broke. But since those aren't easy to come by, you're better off sticking with a solid battery of 15cm L55's from your already existing equipment. Call me crazy. Granted I'm also the same kind of crazy that would go and get his hands on the Hipper turrets JUST to make her that much more brutal. "Why yes, my secondary battery can outshoot most of the heavy cruisers on the water, why do you ask?" If you're going to go Dreadnought, go all the way.

Sauragnmon, thanks for the advice but according to Jeff (thanks for all the work :thumbs_up_1: ) his calculations say that I have a lot of "extra " room for storage and what not,but although I think your spot on with the 8" guns it's incredibly hard to get a tri turret that matches 8" in 1 /350 so I'm almost committed to go with the 7" for my second battery, but if you have any suggestion i would welcome all advice.

Timmy, you have peaked my interest, does it have for main turrets ?

That it does! There are two sprues with two turrets each in the kit =)

Unfortunately, there are only 5 barrels on each sprue, for a total of 10 barrels in each kit, so you'll have to find 2 more barrels for the fourth turret.

Ouch, what I didn't see on the first examination was it is 1/350 so i'm sure I can't manipulate it into my setup ,I do appreciate the advice, but I think that the Arizona( or alike ship ) is the way to go,simply because I want a main turret feel to the second battery. I feel that the tri turret set up will add to the overall "wow" factor. Now if someone knows of a 1/700 ship with 16" tri x 4 turrets I'm completely open for suggestions, as of now nothing is set in stone. So please keep the advice coming I truly do love all and any advice

The other question is... do you really need triple mounts? Take the Hipper turrets, they're produced in fours, with two guns a turret. Using those you can easily toss the 6" tertiary battery and do a double-layer broadside of the secondary 8" guns. Besides, no 8" guns matched up to the 8" L65's the Hipper used. That, and you'll be keeping it looking solidly German.

Here is the latest update on the ohio, I have most of the hull complete, but still need to do the finishing touch-ups.
Here is a pic of the hull beside my Enterprise model, just for comparison purposes .

Here is a few pic's of the hull before primer paint

Here is a few pic's after the paint, clearly you can see i have some touch-up work to do

I do have a question I hope someone can answer. In the pic below you'll see a crack on the hull, this happened when I started to paint this section,it's not terribly bad,but what would cause this crack to happen when paint hit it ? Image As always I appreciate all advice and or critisism,So take care and have a good day. :wave_1:

hmmm...the crack...

Default of gluing (2 parts not clean enough )

or, the thickness too thin of the hull here.

I'd use thick CA on both sides of the crack. You also might want to add a sheet of plastic to the insde hull sides and bottom for strength. Hit it wih accelerator and sand it immediately before it gets too hard.

Thanks gents for the help I think i found the problem, although it's a stupid mistake :doh_1: Where I paint my models is kind of in the basement way and fairly cooler than the rest of the house So what i think happened was the cold air was coming in around the door, and since i left the hull there while i shook the can of primer that allowed the plastic enough time to cool down considerably, and when the much warmer paint come it contact with the now cold plastic and putty mixed joint "SNAP". I did go back and strengthen all joints from inside the hull and added more putty ,and of course fixed the leak in the back door, but it's holding as of now.

I have a bit more progress on the Ohio. I've kind'of been allover the place but, this is my latest update.

After the crack occurred I strengthened the ship by more internal bracing.
Image

I then got the red on the hull done.
Image

I moved on to some basic turret work.
Image
Image

I also got my tiny hanger bay done. I think it will hold around 6-8 a/c
Image

Then I painted the black waterline on
Image

Then I started on the wood deck I got this idea from sauragnmon Thank you much :thanks: . I believe it will look good
Image

Thanks for looking and as always I appreciate all advice ,comments, and criticism. Have a good day
