A: Well I will post on a regular basses. One thing, a big model will mean I can do or add all sorts of things like working lifts, Lights, Working radars and guns, (Not live fire!!!)

A: I must admit I do feel small next to my model at this angle. Mind you I bet it will shrink when its on the water.

A: Thanks Dave. I guess your next model might be a bigger one like mine maybe? Us modelers of Russian ships have to stick together to swap ideas don't we.

A: I must admit my dad was dead set against this model because of its size but he was the only one in the neighborhood. (My dad passed away in February 2007) I'm lucky that I have a large garage and it will only come outside if I need to do any sanding.

Can you tell us a little more about your hot-wire cutter setup?

Are you using closed-cell foam, or the regular old white pebbly stuff?

The hot wire setup is a simple setup using a U shape bracket and a wire strung between it. The wire I used here is (Resistance Wire 28 B&S "Cuprothal" 6.0 ohm per meter) Then I use a battery charger set at 6v low setting. for small wire and for larger ones I increased the voltage to 12v.

hahaha no snow but you should have seen me I was covered from head to toe in the stuff.

Some questions put to me by Dave wooley
Transport - well as you can see I have a small car and I will have to look into that when I get that far. Since I don't need to transport it yet I don't plan to worry about it YET!!.
The Deck - Not sure about that at this time what I plan on doing here. I don't like to use wood so there is a possibility I may make a fibreglass deck.
Moulding the hull - Hmmm maybe, maybe not depends on how many are interested. Last time I did with the Russian carrier Minck 1/100 every one was interested but in the end no one came fourth with money.
ultimate big model - Are you aware there is the Big E here in Sydney so my model is a bit smaller. There is also another US carrier around in Sydney so I'm 3rd largest. USS Enterprise is already on the water and is currently fitting out. The other I'm not sure about.
The guys in Wagga - They know of my interest in the Kuznetzov and while I was living in wagga I spoke to them for advice many times. In fact last time I visited them I made a vow to start building and stop talking about building.

Hiya all, today did some more sanding on the base and by accident towards the end of the days work I broke the ship in half. No worries since its in foam I just re-glued it again using liquid nails.
The idea about this project is to carve in foam a basic shape of the ship. Then cover in plaster as a shield against the fiberglass and then finally remove the foam base and plaster to be left with a one of fiberglass hull. From there on using car body filler, fill in the bumps and sand like crazy to end up with the final hull. I may leave the foam in till this has been done so I can sand this a solid block instead of a fiberglass shell.
Todays images include a few shots which show the dust I generate. A friend came over and took the images between diving for cover from the dust himself. The basic hull is almost complete and soon I will start with plaster. At this stage I have spent around 9hrs of work on the ship including cutting out the ship and gluing and finally shaping with the sander.

Sorry about the date I had a flat battery a while back and forgot to fix it. These shots are from today 5th August 2007.

Hi , I seem to have missed this, but looking at the date it was started I was on my holidays.

I have gone down this track myself but never in such a scale,

the lads from wagga wagga do build in large scales, I took some photo,s of there carrier at Barham a few years ago, that was impresive,

Hi Mick Incredible and a facinating way to build a model . I would hazzard a guess and say at this stage the hull has almost no real weight ? The lines of the hull are very much Kutznetzov

Finally finished the base, just a little more and next plaster gets painted over the base in preparation for the fiberglassing.
As for weight at this stage it has a bit. You have to remember its not all foam but also cardboard for ribs and glue. By the time I get to fiberglass it will be a 2 person job to more it around untill the foam comes out.
It's been hard to finish if people are wondering why I do have lot of other commitments unfortunately, but I hope that I can now get a move on with this project.
