I can feel your pain! It seems that Murphy's law is still working - what hangs and can fall will certainly fall :heh:

You have strong goal if you continued immediately and did not wait for 1-2 days after disaster until your heart settles :thumbs_up_1: Wish you to keep this strength until the end of the build without more of such cases.

Watching your built closely ... :cool_1:

You know that feeling when you see or hear of a bad fall and your gut tightens and you feel kind of sick to your stomach?!? Everything goes into slow motion and you know it's going to be bad! :cry_3:

I feel for ya... Hang in there Kym.

I thought that noise was me accidentally stepping on the cat!

I wasn't looking forward to this section, very complicated. Tomorrow I will add the overhead crane rails and a few little pieces along the edges that will have this deck section finished. A word of warning for anybody adding the underdeck P/E, study the instructions very carefully. Look at the pictures and take note of the hole or cross bar pattern when folding and adding the pieces, it's very easy to get turned around. I folded one of those supports inside out and after realising, removed the superglue and tried to fold it the other way. Wrong, every panel split apart and I had to construct it piece by piece matching the hole pattern to the picture.

all that lattice work is absolutely terrifying to me! I generally work in 1/700, but I'm not sure I have the patience for it in any scale! Great work so far!

Hey Kym!

First of all, fabulous recovery on the PE accident. I remember having a coronary when I basically stripped off the radars on the foremast of a DD I was working on. Small potatoes compared to your potential disaster!

Thanks for the alert on carefully studying the instructions for the after flight deck lattice work. Did you follow Dave Wong's approach on the curved box sections and cut them into 3 pieces or were you able to curve the brass as one piece?

Great Job! Great Pics! Thank you Mate!

No John, I didn't make any cuts. Dave didn't follow the instructions. Right next to the exploded view is a highlighted box containing the build sequence. The 2 final box sections Dave adds are actually 2 of the first in constructing the frame. From what I've learnt so-far, if you don't stick exactly to Hasegawa's build sequence in assembling parts and subsections, there will be problems.
The photo shows the 4 pieces that start the frame.

If I were doing that I'd be having nightmares that when I placed the deck on the hull, 4 of those lattice supports would touch the deck and the other 4 would be pointed off in the air somewhere!

Nice work, Kym!

Ya wouldn't believe it. I ran out of paint and my Australian supplier has 'nil stock' until they get their WEM order. I thought I had another tin and then realised my mistake halfway through spraying the underside of the flight decks. Oh well, they did send the accessories I've been waiting for to finish off the IJN fuel tanker - Kanga-Maru.
Progress so-far. Getting close to adding the decks.

There is a lot of detail around, but i suspect it would look even busier if you were to apply a few washes maybe?.Either way you are building quite fast considering the number of parts and all that etched. It looks very good and makes me wanna dig out my 1/700 akagi full hull with the Lion roar set, as if i dont have enough models half away allready.

Don't know about you, but washes & weathering are the last things I do.

Hi Kym,

I see you used the Jackstay PE around the funnel. Did you decide to use it anywhere else like around the forward hanger bulkhead? Are you going to put the boats on before you assemble the flight deck or after? Are you going to use the boats at all?

Great work sir and as always thanks for the updates!

John, after doing the funnel, I decided to give the rest a miss. I had gone ahead and painted the hull which meant that I would have had to scrape the paint away from the areas for the Jackstays.
Yes, the boats will be added before the decks, but they were on the paint table to be done when I ran out of paint. The only 2 not going to be added will be the landing craft, too nice to be hidden under the decks.

Hello Kym, you must be getting fed-up with everyone telling you what a fantastic job you're doing. Fantastic job Kym, I obviously realise its still very much early days, but have you actually thought of what type of diorama you'll place the Akagi in, open sea, aircraft taking off, smoke bellowing out, all of the above, I still say your harbour with the lights is the best I have ever seen, and the way you're going with this Akagi - well, what a master. All the very best mate. :thumbs_up_1:
