Adding gun tubs or removing things that are attached really is not that hard. Sanding off all of the deck detail, filling the cat tracks with putty and scribing the correct "Steam" cats at the proper angle in a nice, crisp, straight line is what I consider hard. It is hard to make that look right. It also takes some tools, ie.. a dremel tool and some good jewelry files and things like that.
I got most of my experience taking a 1/800 Midway and chopping it up into three pieces, stretching it, and filling in the gaps to make it into a 1/720-ish kit. I did Midway, Coral Sea, and F.D.R. F.D.R. was a big project in that I had to chop off a lot of the deck and rework it. I think that they came out pretty good so I use those as references when I am looking at getting the blade out on a kit.
When you get ready to go, we will all be here to lend our two cents worth. And sometimes, you even get more than two cents worth !!
Good Luck,
Mark
Well said Mark

Robin,
Absolutely! It's BYOB and if you time it right, you can be here in time for the "big game". You can watch it on either my 64" or 40" HDTV. The 40" is the one next to the bar.

I'll throw some hot links on the grill too....oh, and maybe if we have time we can work on my next generation Oriskany.

Oh, here's another photo of my model I should have posted earlier. The photo turned out pretty well I thought.

Here is my Oriskany minus the Airwing. It will be CVW-19 1973.

Mark,
That's a fine looking Oriskany. What kit is it? Is it the Italery 1:700 kit?
I'm looking forward to seeing more, and larger images of her. I know the air wing will look super too from the work I've seen you do on your other models.

Hi Doc,
It is the old Jim Shirley 1/700 Oriskany. They are hard to find but I got lucky and got it from a guy in the Netherlands.

Be careful, the Jim Shirley 1/700 Oriskany should be kept in you safe deposit box until you build it.

Thanks Mark. This is the same Revell kit model I began this thread with. I just recently took a couple of new photos of it with a new camera and thought I'd share them here. It's been a long time since I've posted here.

Looks great. Could use a row of ten or so Starfighter Decals Skyraiders down one side of the front. Seems like those are synonymous with angle deck Essex.
