Re: Calling all Myoko Class Cruiser Fans!
Thanks for that Gilbert.

I was depressed last night, so I rang lifeline. Got a call centre in
Afghanistan and told them I was suicidal.
They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

Yes, #76 is a good depiction. Will that be sufficient, Kym?

Yes mate, just wasn't sure if it was mounted on the bridge superstructure or the foremast. Will that be sufficient, Kym?

A question please-Aircraft handling area
Just fore of the aircraft handling area there is a small free standing "structure" that has what appears to be a ramp leading to it on two sides. Just fore of THAT, there are two additional ramps leading up to the larger midships superstructure. My questions are:
1. Are these actually ramps or is this simply a raised portion on deck to accomodate some kind of equipment below?
2. Is this smaller, independent structure actually a vent to the decks below (facing aft)?
3. In 1/200 scale model photos from the Gakken book, the second, larger superstructure appears to have either vent openings or windows higher up. Can anyone clarify what this is please?
I can't really see in the photos of the 1/350 scale Myoko is any of my questions are answered.
I apologize in advance if this is an absurd question that everyone in the world knows the answer to except me! Thank you in advance.

These are all housing structures for air vents and intakes. Any chance you can post a photo of the Gakken pic as I believe there is also a rear command post in that area.

Re: Calling all Myoko Class Cruiser Fans!
The Myoko is an early war or 1941 version, before the top of the bridge was even rebuilt as an AA command platform. Nachi is clearly mid-late war

calling all myoko class cruiser fans!
you guys are scary hardcore to a new member
(rules before posting) but the class type categories are quite impressive..think I struck gold finding this forum! I am doing my 1st ship build a hasegawa 1/700 heavy cruiser Nachi, lost a miniscule main gun in the carpet and spent an hour trying to find it, I have spent a few more hours searching online for replacement brass barrels with blast bags..since I am missing 1 original part, pacific front hobbies online has the barrels but no blast bags, where can I find barrels AND blast bags? I think I have 12.7cm/5" main guns? please do not shot me for being a new guy.

Welcome to the forum!
The main guns on the Myoko class were 8". The secondaries were 5".
For blast bags, you might want to try making them yourself out of white glue or glue-soaked tissue paper - it is not too hard, and real bags have a slight randomness to them that pre-made blast bags won't have.

Re: Calling all Myoko Class Cruiser Fans!
Hi guys, could anyone point me a good source on the Myoko class? specially Myoko itself circa 1941 that is the timeframe i'm modeling her. i have the Classic Warship pictorial and is a pretty decent book if you are modeling these vessels pre-wart ime specially Ashigara back in 37 however the only good shot i've seen of Myoko is dated 1941 when sea trials were being conducted on her after her refit and is a nice shot but can't do much with it. TIA

Have you bought the newest Gakken #69. It's mostly on Myoko's Class with lots of pictures and colour profiles.

Unfortunately, the PM volume will not give you what you need. It's a comprehensive history, with a lot of pix, but not enough focus on 1941. OTOH, if you can find the other Gakken volume devoted to the Myokos, #27, there is a fantastic 1/350 side view drawing pullout of Myoko. Also a full 1944 version incuding decks.

That volume doesn't come cheap nowadays i'll have to come up with something else.. until now all i got is the classic warships booklet and this awesome built
http://www.teikokukoubou.com/gallery/myoko/top1.html as references wish i could see all the shots though but is better than nothing. i know Myoko's hull is almost identical to those of her sisters. my real concern is with the aft and fore structures, maybe you can still help me Dan what exactly was added to Myoko after 1941 besides that new air combat plaform and radars? maybe i could use Ashigara's bridge as a good reference i know she didn't have windbaffles and that nice tripod mast nevertheless i think the basics of the bridge still pretty close to Myoko's. thanks again

Re: Calling all Myoko Class Cruiser Fans!
Good reference link; I'll look for some others as well.
Jose, I'm a bit confused. Isn;t the kit in 1941-2 rig? No changes to Myoko until mid1942 and nothing really significant until 1943.

Here's a crop of Myoko's bridge in 1941, good for details. Credit Fukui.

Re: Calling all Myoko Class Cruiser Fans!
One of the best i've seen until now Dan, thanks
forgive me if i didnt make myself clear last time but after going over some of the closeups of Ashigara's bridge i can't keep going i'll have to take a different approach. Myoko's bridge is certainly different in many aspects to Ashigara' s bridge. this is where i'm stuck..
