The masts are glued with superglue. I have wetted all the mends several times with highly fluid superglue to get more or less clean joints. I hope it looks well after painting the masts!

Today I removed the Mt. 52 base, closed the gap with a styrene part and put a new base from Corsair Armadas 5� gun set in place. I have glued the square styrene part to the underside to get a support for the round part. That new base fits well for the Mk. 15 Hedgehog. The rest was really boring. I have filled and sanded the seam along the superstructure deck. Sanding must be done very carefully because of the lot of fine parts casted along the superstructure.

Otherwise I�m still waiting for the GMM PE set I have ordered at NNT for some times ago

Well Guido, I believe I couldn`t finish her until November, because I have to wait for the PE. But, promised, I will take her with me, even to let us have a closer look to two or three different Gearing Destroyers. Guido my buddy you know, Frank and Dirk are working on the kit too!

But, I hope to finish this until November. It is not �New� but also new � WEMs MTB794! The boat was finished since some weeks ago except the 20mm twin Oerlikon. I�ve got the parts from Jaques for a couple of days and added em yesterday. Now the boat is ready to paint! I don't want to mix it in this thread, maybe I post some more of the MTB in an other thread when I start the paint job.

I won't mind if you post both here! I think they are both great.

back to USS New, I have start adding all the bits and pieces to hull and superstructure. Like the rest of the kit the small parts are really neat. But taking a closer look you will find some things to optimize � if you want too! As an example, one of the two vents fitted to the bridge superstructure is open, but not the other. It was an easy job to open this vent too, so I did it! The seam along the bridge deck is very prominent but hard to remove. I think about covering the seam with some PR parts from L�Arsenals structural part set, because the bridge deck was overlayed with wood planking. What do you think about it? Any suggestions are welcome! I have added all the hawses and bollards along the upper deck. But first I removed all the small marks because later, the railing must fit well between the hawses and the raised panel along the upper deck (marked with the red line). Also some good news, the GMM Gearing PE arrived at NNT, so I hope I will get the PE set next week

For two days ago I�ve got the GMM Gearing PE set. A very well done set with a lot of fine parts that will allow the modeler to super detail Dragons USS Gearing. But, if I would have a wish, I have two things - hmmm, let me say �to optimize�
First a railing without integrated chocks, because the kit parts are well done and more three-dimensional than the three-part PE parts.

Second, the 40mm amoracks. The instructions advise the modeler to cut off all the stringers inside the bulwarks for a best fit. The injection molded stringers are well done and I want to leave them in place especially the lower racks fit very well in spite of the stringers (you will find a lower and an upper rack because of the draft angle inside of the bulwark). The upper rack is wider than the lower rack and that is the problem when you let the stringers in place, because the rack is a bit too wide to fit well. In a wave of enthusiasm I have glued some of the lower racks before I have controlled the fit of the upper parts. Because it was not necessary to remove the lower racks without destroying them I have tried to fit the upper racks as good as possible. On some photos the racks in the middle of the tub no. 1 and 2 are missing. A detail I have added due to my described problems. Not only because I have ignored the instructions I found it easier to fit all the racks without removing the stringers because they are detailed well enough. Maybe it is possible to replace the upper racks by the lower version!

By the way, English is not my first language and I hope I have described my mind right and understandable.

Also I have finished the first 40mm Bofors using the wonderful GMM PE parts! I hope you like it! Any comments are welcome.

Some progress on building the weapons.
@Dave, I have added some more photos of the 40mm Bofors of different building steps to see all the different parts � injection molded and PE parts. There are some PE parts with the kit, also for the Bofors but I have used the GMM PE parts, because they are finer than Dragons PE parts.
As you can see, each gun was made of 8 injection molded parts and 8 PE parts. It takes much longer to finish the guns because of the very fine parts. You have to work carefully and with passion. I have added an FLG Mk. 33(?) to the aft 40mm quad as seen on some photos of USS New. I don't know if only one quad was equipped with an FLG Mk. 33 gun director, so any help is welcome! @Mark, by the way, I have tried to make them firing but I gave up because I could not found ammunition that will fit with the small guns

All the gun tubs are fitted with their ammo racks and the guns are finished. Also some more photos to see the wonderful details, practice loader, Mk. 51 gun director and the whaler. I hope you like it!

Since I've started following this I have been looking at everything I do and thinking . . . Hmmm what can I do to make this more detailed.

I seem to be a late-comer to this thread, or you are just speed-building. But, I have just studied your bulid from beginning until now, and I am Oh, So, Impressed!

I have been striving to make my scratch building as clean as yours and others. Your tripod mast reminds me of my USCGC Bering Strait's aft tripod mast, but yours is much cleaner, for sure. I still have trouble with gloppy glue. Willie's FFG is another amazing build and his and yours are premier examples for us others to learn by. I'm still quite wet behind the ears in the ship modeling hobby, and I love a great "tutorial", which this thread is quickly becoming.

The Gearing kit looks stupendous and you are making it even better! Nice choice of subject, too! Did I overlook your mentioning which PE set you're using? Could you tell us, again?
