Hi lisec,
What i meant to say regarding the deck was if you were going to attempt different shading to the planking?, there was a great step by step link on how to achieve a realistic deck on a IJN carrier but i cant find it
I normally use the same type of technique as you are using for my decking but am never satisfied with the end result. Alan

Here`s one photo I have from Croatia`s Nationals

I`ve rescribed it one line at a time,in all it took about 3 hours to do it.Standard scribing tool. I preshaded the deck with black than used a mix of paints that would look a bit grayish brown, to simulate worn wood.I don`t like to "woody" finishes in this scale,if you know what i mean...Than washed it with black.

Nothing at this time, despite the occasional rumor. Obviously, the Japanese manufacturers will be seeing how the current 1/350 toolings sell in the Japanese market, esp. the new Hasegawa Yukikaze. Trumpeter seems to march to its own tune; it's affiliation with PitRoad could result in some new IJN 1/350 toolings, though this is speculation on my part. A 1/350 Fubuki would have a cetain logic now that PitRoad is working on a 1/700 version. We'll see how 2007 progresses.

I have heard rumors that Trumpeter is thinking of doing an Akagi...but who knows for sure.PetrOs wrote:Any idea if any 1/350 kits of any japanese CV or CVL exist or are scheduled to appear?

Hi guys, I'm only recently getting into IJN carriers, starting to build the Shokaku, to be exact. Couldn't get the Gakken book on her (out of print) so I got the Zuikaku book instead. Does anyone know of any unique colors on Shokaku's aircraft ? e.g. tail bands, or something like the all red fuselage on the leader's aircraft on the Soryu ?
Thanks in advance !
Thanks in advance !

I am building IJN Unryu at the moment and I am currently working on the anchors what i want to know is if the anchors would have fitted sunggly into the side of the ship as the molding on the kit suggests or should they stand proud of the side like many other ships with just a hole for the anchor chain to run through (yes i know i am not using the correct terms but I would rather describe it like this rather then make an error byu using the wrong term)

There is no cutout or recess for anchors on the Unryu class, just a raised coaming around the hole through which the anchor chain runs. Anchors are drawn up to the hole - the flukes lay flush against the coaming whilst the end of the center stem appears to be drawn up into the hole. Hope this helps.

AJ Press redoing their Akagi book
Apologies if this has been mentioned but AJ Press recently placed on their "Coming-soon" page that they will be releasing Vol 1 of a new book series on the Akagi. If it's anything like the Taiho/Graf Zeppelin books, it should be awesome.
I already wrote them a letter begging for a Shokaku version.

Zuikaku aircraft
G'day all.
Recently I picked up a 1/700 IJN Zuikaku by Tamiya. My fleet was IJN carrier poor so it was an impulsive buy but a good one.
Looking at it, in particular the aircraft there are 6 Zero's, 4 Jill's, 4 Judy's & 1 each of some other aircraft. One of them has wings that have a similar contour/profile to the U.S F4U Corsair (maybe an Aichi B7A Ryusei 'Grace') & the other has a pensil thin, long fuselage. Not sure but this thin one could be a Mitsubishi B5M1 'Mabel' or a Nakajima B5N 'Kate'?
Anyone who has made up the Zuikaku able to shed a little light on what these two may be.
Thanks.

The Tamyia Zuikaku is a late war version (though tTamiya is also now marketing a Pearl Harbor version). If yours has a camouflaged version on the boxart, its late war.
IT comes with a late war a/c sprue. IIRC, 5 - A6M5 Zero, 4 B6N2 Jills, 3 D4Y2 Judys, 1 each B7A2 Grace (the gull wing) and a C2N2 Myrt (Saiun) scoutplanr
