This is happening a lot on here at the moment.

If you change from 'descending' to 'ascending' in the box at the bottom of the thread then you get the posts back (but even that function doesnt work unless you do it twice...), I'm not sure if the programme knows the difference between 'descending' and ascending' anyway... it clearly doesnt know the current status when the code tries to change status... There is clearly a bug on the site which I hadnt noticed before... Maybe one of the moderators or admin people could let us know and tell us what is being done to fix it...?

(As a note... yep... did it to this post too )

Regarding the bugs, as you'll note in the the stickied thread in Main, it's being worked on and will hopefully be fixed sometime this week. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50656

Painted the putty with several coats of thinned navy blue to get various shades of depth and then started tonight on the white highlights. I suddenly realized that this could take some time...there's a lot of waves to be highlighted and I don't just want to dry-brush the whole thing. Anyway, what does everyone reckon? Does it look convincing? I need some feedback...I think my judgment is impaired by paint fumes!

Can I ask what type of chain your using for the anchors there. Looks good in scale. where did you get it?

The weathering in the bow photo really shows off the ships plating. Can you tell me how you went about doing that. It looks great.

Im going to sticky this build . Well worth watching to learn from. When I manage to reduce my stash a bit this ship is on my list

I picked up the chain in my local hobby shop, and it really was just the smallest one I could find...sorry I can't help you more! I actually think it is slightly over-scale, but it's looking OK now that it's painted and weathered. I measured it out, glued one end then laid it down section by section gluing it as I went.

I'm very happy with how the bow turned out. I penciled on the plating and then scribed it on. After I painted the base colour, I weathered it with about 3 shades of gray thinned down with water to get the streaking effect and then with water-thinned brown to start the rust effect. Then I finished it off with some rust streaks put on with a very sharp coloured pencil.

Thanks for making it a sticky! I really like this kit. It's really old now, but a lot of the detail is quite sharp.

Very good, particularly nice weathering, decking, neat finishing and the water's looking good. I also have an atraction to the Nelsons, so good work all round.

VERY nice, it is fascinating to see builds like this from the beginning and following the progress. I have learnt quite a lot from ALL the folks on this site, and with luck I can put more into my own kits. I did the airfix 1/600 version and it is not a patch on this one even before all your extra work. And as for only being your 4th..... I will be following this one more... well done

Well most of the base is now done. Still a few touch ups here and there, and then more once I get the wooden edges on the base. I'm also going to try to get some kind of spray coming off the starboard bow...
Anyway, I've test-fitted the superstructure and turrets to get an idea of what it looks like. Starting to look like a very wintry, cold sea...

I really like your seascape... what paint and colours did you use for the sea blue? Looks really good on screen. How are you going to paint the steel decks... airbrush or hand paint? Really impressive modelling and painting.

I used Tamiya TS-55 dark blue lacquer spray for the sea and then simple gloss white for the wave caps. I thinned the white in various amounts to get the rest of the effect. I'm copying the basic idea for the sea from this thread:

Think I'll try to airbrush the steel decks and go with the same shade you used on Renown, but wait and see if it works. Think there could be a lot of masking to do...

Blackbrazen: I used WEM 507A for the decks on Renown... It looks very dark when first airbrushed but once weathered and a couple of coats of matt varnish it tones down really nicely and looks perfect

That Tamiya colour looks very good for the sea colour... although it must be very, very dark as it looks like there is a lot of black in there.... Really very nice though...

Looking forward to seeing the next stages of the build...

Added some bow spray. I tore up some tiny pieces of tissue paper and soaked them in watered-down white glue, then attached them with CA when they were dry and painted them pure white to blend them in. Pretty happy with the result.

Yes, well done Blackbrazen. I like the bow wave, it takes nerve to try and replicate that. And I also get the sensation that the stern is punching the water away on the starboard side as a result of the port turn. It must be remembered that these brutes had a reluctance to turn and for some reason, my 1:72 RODNEY has acquired a realistic very wide turning circle. (Not by design I hasten to add).
The water colour has a Pacific hue to it and highlights the wake.
I'm beginning to get fascinated by everybodys sterling work in such small scales, and my current project, a 1:72 HMS UNDAUNTED is beginning to look positively massive by comparison! I am humbled by your work.
Keep up the excellent work and very many thanks for keeping us up to date on your craftmanship.

looks very nice so far- i love how you painted the deck

A busy week so not much done, but managed to finish the sea and got the pom poms and the 4.7 inch turrets on...the "slots" for the barrels were drawn on with a 0.05mm pen. Now back to work on the main mast and the ship's boats.

I particularly like the rivetting on the 16" turrets, as evidenced by 'A' gun in your image.

And the 'oggin' looks superb now that it is finished.
