Hi again,

more pics with explanation.

The stanchions I use for my railings, the brass ones are for RC use, the others for static use. The top wire of the railings is in this case in steel, for more strength.



I've put on board my model the same steering gear system than on the real ship, being with wires on the decks, from the rudder to the steering machinery. There is no steam used here, of course, but the idea remains. main advantage in this is that everything stays on deck and can easily be repaired if broken.




The guys having read my former building reports here on MW knows that I'm an "el cheapo" guy, here the way I do my wooden gratings:


I have drawn with the "Paint" program a grating, this grating is then printed on a brown paper, cut out to the right dimension I need, glued on a card underground, is then varnished and there it is, here under the emergency steering station on the after deck:

yep! it's already on my planning, CIC is officially informed I need the car, CIC informed me that the car is only available on the saturday.

Hi Laurent The three island steamers were amongst the most attractive of cargo vessels. Your Proteus certainly looks the part on and off the water.

indeed, those freighters are attractive, this is why my main interest is steamships between 1875 (transition from sail to steam) to the 1930's (end of the countersterns & plumb bows).

Still have a lot of them to scratch build at scale 1/100, like SS "Manchuria" (1900) or MS "Selandia" (1912, she was a real milestone in ship history), for instance

another lovely ship is the "Kedoe" (1921), the first dutch motorship, flushdeck, is't she handsome?

PS: was most impressed by your GAZ truck featured in the last MB, really nice modelling!

Kedoe was not the first dutch motor ship. She was the first dutch general cargo motor ship. First motor ship (if we assume submarines were not ships but boats) was the tanker Vulcanus.
Given your skills your Kedoe will be a very nice looking model however!

Hi all,

another update. I still had to build 6 cargo winches, They were as usual made out paper, the shafts are in 1 mm brass rod, the build is simplified a lot, de "rivet counters" would do it another way. The brass connecting rods still have to be soldered & put on the winches..




Evereything has been painted with a brush & Humbrol acrylic #33





I also did build two ventilators, the ones above the cargo room n� 3:

you must be right, Kedoe wasn't the first dutch M/V, she was instead the first Diesel ship of the KRL...
