Dave, perhaps you could give some of us a brief run down on the Kiev. I, for one, am not up on Russian ships. I must confess, I am in the dark. How about a few pics of the real thing if you can find any. I think that would be great!!

No Dave, Thank-you for offering to share this with all of us. I, too am hunting a new project. Indy will be finished in a few more months, so I need a new subject. I say, a Japanese fleet Carrier in 1/96. What do you say?? Look fwd. to the pics!!

Hi All at the moment I'm down in London for the London Model Engineering Exhibition so I have no access to any pictures etc untill I return home on Sunday . Just to expand a bit on the book with out going into to much detail . Johan asked if it will have any similarities to Tim Morgan's "Scale Model Warships" The straight answer is no. "Warships and Warship Modelling is very much an Anglo American collaborative effort my co author is a guy named Bill Clarke fron Hampton VA and close friend of AD Baker111. The book is very different from many previous publications dealing with the same or similar subject matter. There is a huge number of detailed "on board" shots of all types of warships from the post war years to the present day all of which is unpublished material . There is also an indepth look at " industrial" ship yard models from around the world explaining how they were made and the material used, again much of this material is new to any medium. lastly , approximatley a third of the book is devoted to "amature constructors" with plenty of pictures of constructional detailing and built models, all periods plus clear information for the beginner and more advanced builder. One of the pictures I'm very proud of is the Admirals NC which is featured as part of a "montage" of pictures on the front dust cover.

How about trying something REALLY challenging...??? After all, you�ve already done another Jap carrier (..although 1/144, I know)
How about an Essex class carrier, with all those hangar doors opened, and showing the insides of an US aircraft carrier ??? Just a thought...

Hi, I spoke to Dave the other night for 1 hour, my has he been busy, he has not unpacked his suit case since Dortman, he will be showing us some photo,s of the show when he gets them from the camera, he is judging at Windermere show this weekend, meeting him tomorrow

Hi Neptune Yes were is that Kiev. Now I have no excusses
Book finished I now need to get down to a little serious
building. But first a reminder of what the kit was about.
Hull, deck and superstructure are GRP. I'll need to modify
the strakes leading up to the bow and the area immediately
forward of the angled deck. I always intended to build up
a more light weight island superstructure and I'd prefer a
wood deck. Leaving those little complcations aside the fittings
kit is excellent as the last photo will show.

The hull looks a well cast item, with plenty of crispness to it.

Indeed looks like a nice kit, but it'll need a LOT of detailing! Somehow that bulb looks too large though...

Hi Neptune Thanks for you support I appreciate that. I need a little push now and then to fire up my interest. Apart from the odd few bits of re-construction I have been searching for 1:144 Yak38s. Alas no joy. So I'll have to fall back on plan "B" and scratch build. I have several Kits at 1:72 and a superb 1:48scale which I can use to get the form correct and using Gellutong timber do the rest, wonderfull stuff ! Also need 4 KA25s again scratch built. The model is over 2m long but It just fits in the car so no problems in that department. The kit contains some fittings but the rest we'll scratch build as the need arises. I've included a picture of the YAK 38 with folded wings , got to have them. More pictures to come but do I need to change from this board into the scratch build , I'll have to have a word with ARH. But it's not really a full scratch build but does that matter ?
