Beautiful work Jim! Great addition to the fleet, lets hope the curse comes true and DML does come out with them so those of us with not so great scratchbuilding skills can add jems like these to our fleet as well.

Jim,
Those look great! Of course, you've pretty much guaranteed someone will do them in plastic now!

Refit information
Hello,
I am currently building the USS Independence (Dragon 1/700).
I wanted to use the etched (late war) mast, but avoid the MS33 camo...
Did any of the other ships that can be built (CVL-23, CVL-25 and CVL-30) carry this mast in a simpler camo scheme?
Or do I have to use the plastic mast?
Like Jose said, is there a list of the refit dates for this class (like the Essex page on steelnavy)?

According to http://www.shipcamouflage.com/usn_cvl.htm you can do CVL-25 (Cowpens) in the much easier MS22...
Just check that link, which is very useful...

Ran across this photo tonight and thought I'd post it for anyone who wants to detail their 350th model a bit:

I found this one too... the caption should be of interest:

Oops... my bad... I was thinking the YKM Gambier Bay was an Independence class and not Casablanca.

There seems to be a rumour about that Dragon will come out with a 1/350 CVL soon. Just rumour until Ray...ahem...spills the beans

Re: Calling all Independence-class (CVL) fans
Hey all,
Looking for a little help with Independence & Princeton. I'm trying to pin down some details of these two ships & I keep coming up empty. I've culled every English-language resource on the web I can find. I still can't find the following:
1. A photo showing the bilge keel on the ships. The Polish paper kit I'm using as a starting point show them, as does another drawing I found, but the only photo I found (of Princeton launching) is too indistinct to tell.
2. What type of utility aircraft did these ships carry? A photo would be too much to hope for...
3. A photo of the open bridge.
4. Photos or a drawing of the hanger interior.
Thanks in advance guys!

Hey all,
I posted the preceding request. Apparently AOL doesn't like this board either...
Cheers

Re: Calling all Independence-class (CVL) fans
Hi, my plans for cvl 24 lists F6F-3 Hellcats along with TBF-1 Avengers and SBD-3 Dauntless for the aircraft but doesn't say how many of each. There are some good photos at http://www.cvl-22.com/index.html another good one is ninesisters.com.I'll keep looking for more info I thought I had an aircraft list but I can't seem to find it right now.
I will miss you Werner. Fair winds and following seas.
