If this is a build with no care or effort,
Then all that I can say is you have an extraordinary talent for ship building.
long may it continue.

Thanx a lot! I really did not care, but to be honest, sometimes I have temptation to add something more or correct some mistake... Time to resist! For example I did not find anywhere useable black "hakenkreuz" for Arado - so I used white one. Or I did not find any good 8m boat, so I used IJN 7m and 9m boats from Fine Molds :cool_2: .

Works on Arado and boats:

Hi David,

very good modelmaking as usual :thumbs_up_1:
Gentleman this is a quickbuild! I really would like to know what happens when David take some time to add more details

By the way two questions. Is the crest at Spees bow handpainted? Is the Ar 96 canopy a PE part or only a really good paint job?

Looking forward to some more progress!

Very nice, clean and sharp build! How did you highlight the letters of the *Coronel* plate? Painted and then pared the paint off the letters so that they appear in brass again?

Happy modelling ~ Olaf!

sweet! Really sweet!
Nice blue/brown streaking filter on the hull.
The ships crest comes as a decal?

DAVID BILEK wrote in the first post.....

...>> I will try to do real quickbuild on this ship - no fear, no care, no special effort. Just add some details and finish Graf Spee ASAP<<

Hahaha!! that is far to good modelling to be a 'quick ' build!

Re the Coronel plate..--if it was PE...--I would have painted that kind of thing black with Rotring ink

and then rubbed the PE piece upside down on plain printer paper taped to a piece of glass.

minimum abrasion = removes the ink layer leaving brass...

David B....-- how did you do it...?

Uff, I am very sorry, but I forgot totally for this topic :doh_1: Graf Spee is finished several months already and here is final photo. More soon in the gallery :wave_1:

To Jim B : Coronel Plate - I used water based paint (Vallejo) applied by brush and after drying I rub the extra paint on newspapers (any rough paper will work). It works with any kind of paint (enamle, acryl, lacquer), but water based paints have really poor adhesion on PE, so this was my choice.

I know that this thread is somewhat dated
but I'm hoping that David will catch it and
answer a simple question regarding this
awesome build.

I have been fascinated by the Graf Spee
ever since I was a young lad and saw the movie
'Battle of the River Plate".

I love this build David and I intend to try
and duplicate your efforts so I hope you
can help by answering this question.

Oh, one last thing, does anyone know
how David does his seascapes? They look
awesome as well!

Thanks for posting this step-by-step!

David

Woops!

Forgot to ask the first question!

David, could you tell me what the "basic wood color" you used was?
I'm terrible a picking color shades. Thanks!
