One more dumb question. Can anyone tell me what is done with part # B31 while the ship is underway?
Does it fold back, or is it removed? I know it can't be there during flight ops.

From my days onboard the IWO JIMA LPH-2. They would be lowered when flight ops are going on.. As for the aft flagstaff, it would also be lowered once the colors have been shifted to underway. I hope this helps.. OH By the way are doing a full hull or water line for your burke.
bow Jackstaff comes down while underway.. I had a great photo of JOHN PAUL JONES DDG-53 but it is too big for submission. the stern one does come down during flight ops.. sorry for the confusion... Helo Jockeys Don't like anything that may hurt their baby..

Its my guess that they put it up when the Special Sea Detail is set on entering port and it is taken down when the Special Sea Detail is relieved on leaving port.

OK, Dumb question #2 When you say lower, does it pivot down, or is it removed?
Second, I am doing a water line. It is going to be at station keeping, launching one of the forward VLS rockets.

The photos show it gone and it looks like the staff fits into a shallow socket. so it appears that it is pulled from the socket and stowed. Just leave it off the stern chock and fold the double antennas outboard for flight ops.

Thanks everyone for all the help! I felt stupid in asking, but I knew there were enough people who were on these ships to know exactly what to do.
I will cut it off, and move on.
Tonight I'm going to try the Future floor wax decal thing.

Hey guys, I was going through the photos I took while on a Friends and Family Cruise on the Truman back in 2009 and I found a bunch of shots of USS Barry (DDG-52). She was on the opposite side of the pier when we pulled in and I was up on the starboard bow snapping away TR, and several MSC Oilers are in most of the shots as well.
Taken from the hangar deck as we were pulling away from the pier. Only starboard side shot I got, sorry
Taken from the flight deck as we were pulling back into the pier.
If you want the high-res versions, drop me a PM and I'll e-mail them to you.
Enjoy,

I was fortunate enough to acquire a Blue Water Navy 1/350 USS John McCain DDG 56 several years ago. How does it compare in accuracy to other available models?

when did the Arleigh Burke get a redesign ie the nixie openings.. She has the Round style like her sister ships... does the John Paul Jones still have the square as previous photo posted????
I am going to be starting a model soon of the USS John Paul Jones DDG-53 for a former professor of mine: Dr. James Bradford - World's formost authority John Paul Jones, former Professor of the Naval Academy, Current Professor of Naval History at Texas A&M University, and Beater of Ass. It is only fitting for him to have a model of the JPJ.
Does anyone have any current pictures of her? Anything would be greatly appreciated.
Try the site listed below, if you haven't already. In the search area, type in John Paul Jones and check the "exact" search criteria and you'll get a buttload of high res pictures.

for a current flt I go with uss hopper it has the NUKLA lanchers and all the current electronic upgrades, However do your research esp on the stern. As for a ship with RMS MOMENSON to BANBRIDGE then use the MOMENSON.. For all others after that use the Forest Sherman.. Again some research needs to be done, IE CIWS being added to aft stack aka uss larsen... hopes this helps..
