I will not be using it.
I feel it detracts from the beauty of the ship.
The ship may go to Dortmund one day .............. a definite no-no in Germany!
The crew onboard were mainly serving German Navy ............. not nazis.
My father is still alive .............. he is an X special ops/X craft type person and I would not like to insult him.
That is my first and last statement on this matter.

Hi All
A bit of progress to look at.
This section only mocked up.
Hangar door mainly fabricated but still needs more detail attaching.
Most of mast done.
Flag deck fabricated.
Searchlight deck fabricated.
There was an oops! on the deck directly below the searchlight deck.
The drawings were not entirely correct at the time so C.A.D. was inputted with the wrong info.
All sorted now though.

Hello
Just to answer a couple of messages that I have received regarding the Funnel.
This is what it looks like around the top.
The squares around the inner area worked as vents to cool the area between the inner and outer parts of the funnel.
The tubes sticking up were in fact exhausts for diesels etc running within the ship. (I have seen the odd one smoking in a photo or two)
There are eve a couple of hatches in the front area.

No words to describe the quality of this build....
How are you going to prepare the surfaces for painting, and what will you use to close any gaps or hide some sims?
And one more: Is the upper deck planked using the same method with the main deck?
What material are you using for the areas where the deck is not planked?

Hi Nick
Before I apply any paint I will clean. file and sand the solder joins etc. Then scuff the entire structure with wet and dry.
I will then apply an etch primer that I have. (Very tough,flexible and can be removed with a file or sharp chisel only)
I do not intend to have gaps.
If if there are any blemishes I will use body filler over the etch primer.
Of what you can see on the build I have done very little clean up.
It is in the rough. Most of the closer photos are done on setting micro 1.
Upper deck planking method is the same as the main deck.
Plain Metal areas on the deck will be .......... matt finish plate.
The areas that have non slip plate are already done in photo etch, though I have not
finalised the colour! Have seen anything from Dark/Green to Dunkelblugrau.

Hi all
I have been busy again.
I have detailed the hangar door.
I have omitted the box up on the door in the mean time
The after areas have had some vents added.
They will be opened just before paint.

well done on your build. I have followed your diligent progress with interest.
However, a 1:72 scale HMS RODNEY awaits your completed build in far-off Portsmouth ...........................
This model breaks into two pieces and is ten feet long. It then fits (very snugly) into the family car. I will (hesitantly) attach an image because I would not like to detract in any way from the excellent work that you have achieved.
Larger scale modelling can be a joy, and sailing on any waters is rewarding, given the stability and grace of larger models on the water. They seem to glide effortlessly and serenely THROUGH the water.
Keep up the excellent work and I wish you
bon voyage on your first launch.

Thanks for that Phil.
She is ten years old now and is in need of a major refit. The original 12v windscreen wiper motors need renewing and that in itself will require more remedial work. Refit will be next winter's project as I'm currently building a 1:72 scale HMS UNDAUNTED.
Keep us informed of your progress, especially with the photos.

Hi Dave ............... Time to have a photo opportunity.
I have been working on the after superstructure decking.
All three levels are being done at the same time.
Very time consuming but the end result is great.
you will get an idea how I work from the photos ............ not always the tidiest.
you have to be very structured how you progress with planking or you will end up out of step.
Bits and pieces of superstructure being fabricated at the same time..
For serious builders who do not have a face plate sanding disk ........... GET ONE!
I use this all the time without exceptions.
It speeds up the job and very accurately at that. It makes some impossible jobs possible.
