After looking a little more at the photos of the upper hull sections that Trumpeter gives you can see that there is a difference between the Roma and the Littorio. I'm glad to see that they care enough to get it right, instead of just throwing another kit out the door with a different name plate and painting guide. I believe I will still be choosing Roma over her sisters though, as her shapely bow section looks better in my opinion.

the photo of the kit Littorio ,the rangefinders primary and secondary are ok,
on the color scheme you notice that they put theanti-aircraft pitch on the 20/65 mm guns on the towers from 152 aa gun bow, were added in 1942.
In 1940 there are not were two 20/65 a.a. the sides of the tower 3 high-caliber, were added in 1941
gray color scheme of the Littorio was the entry into service until the damage torpedoing of Taranto in November 1940, in 1941 had the first scheme of camouflage.
The Carley (lifeboats were gray) in 1940
Littorio 1941

If any of the Vittorio Veneto-class battleships were active in the 1980s, what shades of grey would have been used on the vertical and horizontal surfaces of the ship?
What would the paint scheme have been?

What alterations need to be done to the Roma in order to paint it solid grey accurately? I don't really like the camouflage.

Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
Look up Jim Baumann's build on AXIS models resin kit of Roma. You can find it listed under his index of models. He decided to portray her while she was on sea trials, shortly before she was commissioned and painted with her splinter camouflage pattern. During that period she had a solid gray paint scheme without the characteristic red and white stripes across her bow. He shows all of the scratch building and alterations he did to get the model period correct and has a large number of photos of the finished product.

While I think you are correct in the count on your stripes, I think the angle is incorrect. I was looking closely at the British aerial recon image of Roma, and while I am unsure on the appearance of extreme bow, I do think the angle of your stripes is too extreme. Of course, we're all going by the mk 1 eyeball.Giampiero wrote:Roma striped pattern produced by viewing photo June 1942 - summer 1943

Re: Calling all RM Vittorio Veneto-class fans!
Folks,
I've just noticed on two photos what looks like false bow and stern waves on Roma. I skimmed through this thread and didn't see any mention of this, but if it has been discussed please forgive me.
Anyway, here are the photos - the starboard bow wave is clearly visible but its hard to see the stern with the ship's inclination. The port photo is very clear on the stern.
Thoughts?

I'm certainly no expert on Italian Navy camo, but it sure looks like it. Not uncommon - I think some of the cruisers and other battleships had these in their patterns as some point as well.PaulC wrote:I've just noticed on two photos what looks like false bow and stern waves on Roma. Here's another port stern view - no doubt at all - and nicely shows the appearance at the stern.

Bow and stern waves were there and were painted white, but in October 1942 those were covered up with light grey as they could provide aiming spots for the enemy in the nighttime

VV and Littorio had bows with much less flare than the Roma.
Speaking of the Trumpter kit....I presume a new hull would be needed for the VV and Littorio compared to the Roma shape.

One thing is surely needed, a new flag: the 1/350 box has got the Italian flags printed wrong, with the red panel on the left

Trumpeter had an update for the 1/8/2011 product releases, and the upcoming Vittorio Veneto 1940 is listed in 1/700, so the release date is coming soon, link:
