The funnel cap and base are easy as they are solid. The funnel itself is a little more difficult because of the hollow shape. Yes it's cast from the plastic fore funnel in one go. The key is to apply plenty of release agent to the plastic to enable you to free it from the silicone mould.

There are plenty of "How to" tutorials on You Tube. All I need now is the extra PE set from Pontos. Mr Kim did tell me at Telford that we would be able to order an additional set. I'm not sure if it will be present in the main kit. What was on display at Telford was incredible and not even the finished article.

Anyway I can't wait to build this kit so good luck to everyone.

The replacement funnel looks great. However I thought that the aft funnel was the wrong size.

look closer, the resin one is the copy of the fwd funnel and the plastic funnel is the fwd one,so 2 equal fwd funnels and problem is solved

He made the cast from the fore funnel.

My apologies, my eyes must have been playing tricks on me, I thought it looked small. In any case will this be a retail item?

The resin replica of the fore funnel will be used in the aft position. The base however will need modifying in order to fit the superstructure.

I won't be making anymore but have a try at resin casting. It is straightforward and actually good fun. It also gives you the skills necessary to rectify mistakes within a model kit and reproduce multiple parts. All the materials for casting are readily available on line. Try Mouldcraft or Sylmasta.

The chap from Sylmasta was giving demonstrations at Telford and I can recommend their casting kits. You get everything you need in one box.

Thanks Pete for your reply. Yep I've done a bit in the past, you're right it's not too difficult. What I really want is an extra set of etch for the fore funnel. I can easily resize the aft funnel.

Hopefully Mr Kim could give us an update. He said at Telford that an additional fret would be available. Whether that is a separate Add-on or part of the main kit I'm not sure.

I acquired the Trumpeter Hood at a very attractive price at Telford - and was absolutely blown away by the quality of the Pontos set on display.

I already have the Pontos 1:350 Dreadnaught set - but this was something else!

If anyone from Pontos sees this - don't suppose you're still accepting pre-orders at the price you were quoting are you?

I too will be casting a copy of the front funnel - but *must* finish my 1:350 kit before I do anything on this!

The anchor chains are normally included in Pontos sets. The demo model at Telford is still obviously in development too.

Bill was a great chap indeed. We definitely miss him. As for backdating to 1923-1924/Empire Cruise, that's a good idea (and something that many others may also be interested in). Of course, you'd have to discard a significant portion of the Pontos detail set.

As for me, I'm leaning toward 37/38 (same reasons: most of the vets I got to know well were aboard her in that period...plus she looked her best in Foreign Stations light grey).

1) We have not commented on the boats & launches of HMS Hood, an area where the AOTS falls short for the 1941 version
2) The HACS director by Trumpeter is really poor. Good drawings of this director are readily available. This is one item that can be easily provided by the 3D printing community, though. The same probably holds for the pompom directors.
Still Alive....

Two Types of HACS will be added with some Etching Parts.

I'm really not sure if I was looking forward to the model release or this Pontos upgrade set more. This should be wonderful! I pre- ordered my set through Free Time Hobbies. This will be my after Christmas surprise!

Mr Kim, do you have enough information for the underdeck support pillars? Is there any other information you need?

Those were designed by our very own Steve Larsen (a.ka. Model Monkey), so you can be quite confident that they are as accurate as they can get!

Steve is also working on accurate turrets.

Note that HMS Hood was fitted with both the HACS Mk II and later Mk III. There is quite some variation between the directors among ships, but for HMS Hood the Mk III did not have that large bulging cover.

Here you can see that the opening is closed off. The image below is HMS Hood

THE ROYAL NAVY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR. IWM (A 174)IWM Non Commercial Licence

You can note a few things; first the size of the rivets (hint, hint). Second, that the top of the director is closed off wth a roof. Compare that to this HACS Mk III director on board the Dutch cruiser Heemskerck

Note that there is this large bulging cover folded back you can see very clearly and that the director has no roof. Same for HMAS Australia

This is HMS Hood, but this is the Mk II director.

As a) I have one image that shows it closed off with a cover directly on the openings and b) not a single image showing the bulging cover, I would only use the model you have shown at left
