Hi Tony and all,

Something I forgot in the previous message : the signal " ---o--<>--o--- " in the halyard means that the ship is stopped repairing an underwater cable or picking up a buoy.

Very best regards again,

Willie.

That signal is the general signal for "restricted in its ability to manoeuvre". Might mean pretty much anything ranging from what you mentioned to doing helicopter operations or towing its sonar array, difficult to tell which one is the case here.

G'day Willie,

Once again - a true craftsman - I would love to sit and watch you work one day.

As with the Seahawk, Veteran Models also do inflatables - although it's a bit late now....and u really have done a superb job of it.

cheers,

Any time you want, my friend. You would be disappointed at seeing how easy to do these things are, but beer is already in the fridge...

Nice going in Down Under, and very best regards from the North Atlantic,

Willie.

Very nice work. What is the gray material you're using for the loops and 1/2 circles, etc?

Hi there Reigels and all,

Easiest thing ever : It is only streched sprue. You simply have to wind it around something round and re-heat the plastic very carefully. Then cut in slices as many times as necessary, and adapt to the required lenght.
There are a lot of things that can be done with sprue :

It is in Spanish, but I think the pics are clear enough. Click on the pics to open them.

Very best regards,

Willie.

Willie the rhib is superb... :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: I have a question for you: If you examine the pictures you posted closely you will notice that the bollard for the rope at the bow of the boat has the horizontal bar passing throug the vertical one, and not in the front of it as yyou have placed it. Why did you do that?

Keep the photos coming!!! :wave_1:

In simple words, because I am a bit of a stupid: I didnt pay attention to this detail when gluing the parts, and I have just realized the mistake after reading your message... :bash_2:

Anyhow, the whole RHIB is so tiny that this will go unnoticed when the construction is finished :

Hi all,

I have already finished the markings on the flight deck.

After making the exterior lines --as shown in a previous post-- the border of the observation post and the midships line, I have drawn the central circle, a problem which I solved after some hesitation using two coins, a 2 Euros coin for the outer border and a 20 cts. one for the inner border.

The template was like this, with the little central marking drawn with no template :
(247).jpg
After this I made the "H" for the HIFR, using Tamiya masking tape :
(248).jpg
As for the rest, I made a template ad hoc, that was somehow long to make, but not difficult at all :
(249).jpg
So all the markings together are now like this, with the little circles of the HIFR line made purely by hand, because I was not able to make a template this little :
(250).jpg
It needs some retouching in a couple of points, but I hope you like it anyhow.

Very best regards from Spain,

Willie.

Hi all,

After finishing the flight deck paintjob, the problem was to erase the remmants of glue from the sticker, so I thought that for the red lines template in the forecastle I could try something cleaner, which is to discard the sticker and use only the paper support, fixing on it stripes of Tamiya tape, which is simply ideal for this job, because it leaves no traces of glue at all.
The template was like this :
(251).jpg
Once I had given the first hand in red --and it was perfect-- I had to ruin the job taking for the second hand the wrong red can and applying satin instead of matt red... :doh_1: The border lines of the satin red are much thicker when retiring the template, and they break more than when using matt. But it could have been worse...

The forecastle is now like this :
(252).jpg
These lines are again a bit oversized, but this is the only way I have found to keep the visual effect of the tape breaking withing reasonable limits.

I hope you like it, and best regards from Spain,

Willie.

As previously mentioned APS Models do a 1:72 Australian long-hull FFG hull. It is available as a hull only or as part of a pretty comprehensive kit.

Here are some shots of completed RAN FFGs using that kit as a basis.

Hi all again,

After painting the flight deck lines, I had to make and set in place the towing tracks. They are made with 1mm. Evergreen stripes and stretched sprue. Once painted, I reduced the profiles with a blade, and set the in place with CA. They were like this :
(253).jpg
After painting again in grey, I had to retouch all the white lines and draw the yellow ones:
(254).jpg
And this is the effect with the helo on deck ::
(255).jpg
(256).jpg
Now I can start with the main structure.

I hope you like it, and best regards from Spain,

Willie.

Yes, they go down to the keel on both sides. The idea is to supply a bubble curtain for the whole underwater hull.

Now stop getting distracted and get back to the Kirov!
