I couldn’t get more than five in a row ... rgive me.🥲

Yes, choices choices

Image

I resorted by inserting painted sticks in the lockers (0.3mm rod) with a 'mean colour' guessed for a multi coloured flag, but your version gets to point across quite nicely.

Thanks for your feedback, EJFoeth.
Knowing what an outstanding Hood you're building, I'm especially pleased to hear it.

The idea with the rods is also great. They fit perfectly into the lockers and look like they've been rolled. :thumbs_up_1:

You are building a fine model there...

Thank you very much, Jim.

I'm very pleased that the master of detail likes my model. I will try to maintain my standards, and I'll do so with this material....

Curtain up:

Image

The crew folds up the excess tarpaulins for storage. An officer supervises the work from above.

Image

Finally, my compass, into which I had put so much work, could also be placed on the model.

Image

There’s not much to see of his brother in the wheelhouse.

Image

And the first 12-pound naval guns were also allowed to take their places.

Image

The front bridge is now complete, except for the searchlights.

The 12-pounders must have shaken that lightweight bridge quite bit, when fired ... to me the placement of this gun seems somewhat strange.

Thank you both.
Yes, it must have shaken like an earthquake on that little bridge, Eberhard.

Hello everyone.

Just a few pictures of the aft bridge today. It's now been fitted with crew and interior details. The searchlights are still missing, as I'm waiting for the 3D print from New Zealand. Also, a signal flag needs to be hoisted, but for that I need the complete mast.

Image

It still annoys me a little that I didn’t show how to attach the tarpaulin here. But crying won’t help, so this is what I’ve done.

Image

The crew is being trained on the 12 pound cannons.

Image

Under the strict supervision of the officers.

Image

That means I’ve now finished everything amidships. As always, following my crafting maxim, I’m working from the inside out.

Image

And so I can now turn my attention to the bow and the stern.

Unfortunately, your instincts were right, Eberhard.

And so I have a major setback to report.
I was so engrossed in depicting a great scene on the bridge that I made a huge mistake. I installed the wrong guns.

The Hotchkiss Conspiracy.

Apparently, villains stole the 3-pounder Hotchkiss, and the shipyard workers mounted the wrong guns.
This cost me a sleepless night. But I was able to remove the 12-pounders that didn’t belong there from the bridge without causing too much damage.

Image

The veneer on the starboard side was more severely damaged and a figure has come loose.

Image

Things went better at the stern. However, removing the cannons there was much more difficult because of the figures.

Image

But it worked. Only one figure came loose, leaving a bit of shoe sole on the deck.

Image

And here you see the culprits and their successors.

Thankfully, the 12-pounders are only minimally damaged. Nothing that can’t be fixed. And to cover the damaged veneer, I found suitable flanges from an old photo-etched brass sheet, which will then go under the Hotchkiss guns.

Image

I’ll keep you updated.

Aaaargh!!! Not fun... I'm sure we've all been there once or twice (or much more!).

Luckily, it's nothing that can't be solved with a bit of glue and paint. But still not fun of course!

Yep, (Hotchkiss) 3-Pd. QF guns were commonly mounted on such elevated positions to fight incoming torpedoboats. Although, at that time they may have been already inadequate against the larger torpedoboats and longer-range torpedos.

Yes Marijn, that's really annoying.

Repairing the damaged areas with the Hotchkiss shouldn't be a problem. I'm making them right now.
As I mentioned, they'll have a slightly larger base, so the damaged veneer should be well covered without needing much paint.

And another great piece of information, Eberhard.

Ahoy, landlubbers!

I've managed to fix my mistake. The incorrect guns have been replaced, and ultimately, no damage was done to the model.
The smaller Hotchkiss guns have taken the place of their larger counterparts, and you can no longer see any trace of the damaged veneer.

But see for yourselves.

Image

The whole thing looks much more harmonious now. The 12-pounders were obviously far too big for the delicate deck.

Image

The team was also able to resume their training.

Image

The whole thing was incredibly stressful.

But... no pain, no gain! 😁

I hope the results do give you satisfaction though?

Thank you Marijn, and that's so true. 😅

I'm very happy with the result and glad I took the risk. Those big 12-pounders looked so oversized on that delicate deck... which I only noticed after the mistake was pointed out to me.

So, all's well that ends well. 👍

Excellent restyling Joelle! Neat and invisible rework. Amazing result. This should adequately compensate for the years of life lost in the repairing process

Hi there Joelle and all,

S**t happens, and sleepless nights over mistakes are a modeller's curse, but your solution works wonderfully, and it is all in the end that matters.
Keep the excellent works, and thanks for sharing your tricks.

Best regards from this side,

Willie.

Good morning.

Thanks for the info, Jim. I also had that image in my database, but not in that size, so great. I could have used more of these highly detailed photos for this project. But you work with what you have. 😉

Thanks for your feedback, Willi, I'm glad to hear that. I was just happy the sleepless night was on the weekend and not the night before work. I always have to get up very early, so I could have just stayed up all night. 🤭
