Mark is correct in everything he says there, Fwd port sponson needs to come off and plate from inside, fill and sand, it has to come off for any build of JFK as it is a totally different shape, Sponsons aft need to be cut out, inserts put in, reinforce from inside, fill as needed and sand. Study pics of stern area and detail as needed. Mark has shown you flightdeck shape. only other area that may need looking at is under the island, you have the structure that houses Unrep gear.
I may have to do another JFK without all the CIWS and other added sponsons

I'm building my JFK from the Italeri America kit, because the hull is closer to JFK, although it means more scratchbuilding. The best way IMO, if you don't mind cannibalizing another kit, is to bash an America with a Nimitz to get something reasonably close, but either way will involve a great deal of scratchbuilding.

mark could you post a pick of the starboard side aft as well..staight on would be better if possible.. I can proaby do a decent build of kennedy from pics of your build..

The Italeri launchers are awful. I can send you some Pitroad Mk-25 if you send me your address.
You can find a good SH-2 inside the Knox class kit from AFV
thanks for the offer...I have good pics of the launcers and will scratch my own...I will proably take an sh60 and bash it into a sh-2....

I have thought about doing another, except this time I would use the 1/700 Fujimi Kitty Hawk and convert it like I did the America. Lots more worrk, but it would look better next to my other 700 scale carriers. I have done enough of them now that I can see the mis-match in the 1/700 aircraft and the 1/720 scale carrier. Things like 4 tomcats will not fit correctly on the stern on a 1/720 model type things. You can avoid that by not filling the deck with aircraft, but what fun is that!

thank you..I look forward to the pics....I should be able to kit bash...I dont know if you have seen my gallery here...I do more sailing ships than gray ladies...this will be a nice change of pace from my last build Cutty Sark.

First real ship I built as a kid was the 1/96 scale and the instructions weren't in the box. I was a very determined 11 yr old kid & built her from pics from the library books.

What brand of Tomcats are you using? Because if they're Skywave, that's your problem right there: the Skywave ones only have the wings swept back to their max in-flight position of 68 degrees. The Trumpeter ones get the carrier-deck oversweep angle correct at 75. Not sure about Fujimi's.
I only ask because I remember someone recently doing a 1/720 TR that recreated that great photo from the final Tomcat fly-off, with nothing but 22 Tomcats (and a couple of SH-60s) on deck, and using Trumpeter F-14s he got the positions of all of them pretty much dead-on accurate to the actual photo, including 4 lined up across the stern. I like using the Trumpeter kits for my Tomcats so I can get the oversweep look. The will fit like that on a Nimitz, not a Kitty Hawk though. I am am also going to build the Roosevelt with the fly off. It isa great looking deck of aircraft and the Tomcat is my sentimental favorite jet! That was my first pic out of flight school. The E-2 community drafted me instead. It has worked out 22 years later though!

I was wondering.....
I have a set of SH-3s from Trumpeter for Connie and my only question is did Connie ever used SH-3 Helicopters during 2000?
If so, please say so....

Looks like Conny's last cruise with SH-3's was 1989. We (CVW-9), took Conny around the Horn in 1990 and we had SH-60's. She cruised with them in 1994 with CVW-2 after her overhaual on the east coast 1990-1993.

I like the Trumpeter Tomcats too. The only problem is that only 6-7 are usable out of 12 in a kit. The ratio of 6 with open wings and 6 with their wings swept is not so good for us.
