Do any of you know which time period the 1/700 Fujimi Haguro kit (kit no. 410104, I think) comes from? 1942? Or 1944-45?

What about the Hasegawa Myoko?

Would be great if someone could fill in the rest of the blanks for the other 4 Hasegawa and Fujimi kits missing from the list below as a reference for everyone else.

I only have four of the eight kits mentioned:

Myoko (Fujimi No.7) - 1944/45, with 8 twin and 4 triple AA
Nachi (Hasegawa 334) - 1941-43, with 6 twin AA
Haguro (Hasegawa 335) - 1941-43, with 6 twin AA
Ashigara (Hasegawa 336) - 1944, with 10 twin AA

Good. I just bought the Fujimi Haguro kit today. I can't read the Japanese in the instructions, so how does one know which parts go with the 1944 refit?

Assuming all the instructions sheets are similar, any mast with a radar configuration is a late war versions. Also, the extra AA assemblies are depicted in a box, so those get added as well.

IJN Haguro also sometime in 1943(or 1944) had a IJN Myoko style main mast and derrick, unlike IJN Ashigara and IJN Nachi.

Did Aoshima do a Haguro kit or do I need to get a Myoko?

I think i'm seeing parts of a funnel there.. what a shame. I know all these wrecks will eventually collapse and seize to exist as proud warships that once were, only metal will remained only to be plundered. Destroying them now knowing that these still have years left is a crime. Japan lost the war and the old Japanese empire is nothing more than a name but isn't Japan the rightful owner of these wrecks still? or did they renounced ownership of all their WW2 sunken ships which i don't think is the case of Yamato.

AFAIK, they are still considered war graves. Japan relinquished no rights.

I am not sure if the fact that japan retains nominal title to a sunken warship in foreign territorial water means much when the foreign state has all legal right to dictate condition of access to the wreck as part of its sovereignty over the body of water the wreck is in.

The same sort of thing continues even in Manila Bay, in plain view, only a half mile from shore. Two of the four 14" guns on Fort Drum, the "Concrete Battleship", have now completely disappeared. Historical importance matters not when the increasing value of high grade scrap metal and ambivalent (or less) local officials are factored in. Deep water now seems to be the best friend of historical wrecks.

Last month i picked up an Aoshima 1/350 Myoko with he dedicated P.E & Railings for a VERY good price. �60 all in!

As my current build ( Trumpy 1/350 Q.E) is nearly done, I'm eyeing the Myoko up for my next build.

Are there any areas i need to be aware of during construction?

Do i REALLY need any aftermarket parts? I'm sure i read somewhere the A.A guns are lacking....

& can anyone suggest a Vallejo colour thats a close match to the grey the ship would need for an OOB build please? Would it be Kure or Sasebo or summink else?

This would be my 1st I.J.N ship, & i REALLY don't wanna screw it up. So help a rookie, willya guys?!?!

Keep in mind at the time i started building it there weren't any dedicated super sets for the kit so i had no other choice but to borrow from many P.E left overs i had. Joe's WIP thread is great if you are modeling Myoko late in the war go through his thread, I modeled mine early 41 alot changed throughout the years until her sinking.

Jose, THAT is a great build! How did you find the smaller details of the kit? Anything screaming out to be replaced??

I'm hoping to use Vallejo paints on mine, But I'll settle for the Tamiya stuff to fire thru the airbrush as a second choice.
